Have read a few things talking about the same type of issues. Leaning toward the ISX at the moment. Especially, -->IF<-- the "fix" for the fuel pump actually takes care of that issue.
As a couple have said previously, there was a campaign to remedy the issue. If you have the serial number of the motor a dealer or Cummins service center should be able to tell you if it has been done. Based on my experience, I'd also suggest inspecting the cam.
There is no fix, the pumps are still failing, go over to Rawze.com, it is a continual parade of these issues. The dealers are not going to help you guys, but will screw uyou right into insolvency. Been there, and done that with a CM-871, which after $40,000 is now fixed, not including the $60 grand in cash I paid for the truck. Four years later I may show a profit! I would not go near a CM-2250 or 2350 for all of the tea in China. Plenty of ME out there. Trust me on that.
Your statement about how MX's don't make any power below 1600rpm makes me wonder where you get your information. At 1600rpm their powercurve goes down not up.
Well, I guess I need to rethink my options. I like the newer KW660/PB386 That whole ISX fuel pump ordeal just isn't worth the hassle, IMO. And the MX just seems like one bug after another that only Paccar can fix. I can only imagine how much one would spend on towing over the course of a MXs life. Thanks everyone. Y'all saved me a lot of stress.
FIY i have a 2y old MX and i still have to see the first check light come on. Zero issues with the emissions and the DPF indicator is still at the same level as when i got it new.................. I hope that what ever you buy you get a good one.
Um, it comes from a few years of driving them. The truck doesn’t start pulling until about 1600 rpms, and it takes about two days to get there. Maybe it was the low emission programming. I have driven them plenty, our company had about 100 of them, and we couldn’t sell them fast enough. First time I saw that motor it was so small I thought the cylinder head was missing.
2 years old is still new. The gremlins I've been reading about seem to come out of hiding shortly after the warranty runs out. Lots of sensor and electrical issues after that point if what I'm reading is to be believed.
Get back to me in a few years. Then i can tell you for shure. Whatever you buy , inspecting the harnesses as good around and under the truck is allways a good idea. Zipties need to be tightend over time and most damage done to a harness is from rubbing against the chassis which leaves marks you can see. Maintenance is more then changing oil.
