Peterbilt is NOT an option for ANY truck owner in Phoenix. We all just know, its something everyone in Phoenix laughs about... You just don't go to Rush Truck Center in Phoenix. They're criminals. MHC Kenworth are not much better. They may not be criminal like Rush but they are parts slingers. They plug in, send an e-mail to their Rep, throw whatever parts he say at it and hope for the best.
If you happen to own a Paccar (as I did till I built a 6NZ) Kenworth has no problem just casually mentioning "you need a new engine" ($40,000)... Or "you need a fuel pump, that'll be $4,000"...Neither of those places knows how to deal with a truck or truck owner that has no warranty. You say they are willing to help with costs???? No, not in Phoenix. Sure, they'll take half the labor off while saying "sorry, we can't fix your truck, but we'll take half out labor cost off the bill".
You don't know why I keep saying the engine needs to be removed? Because IT DOES! Im not sure about any other make or model but a 2013 389 with an MX13 requires an engine removal to R&R those parts.

In any case - here's the actual information in a MX13-13 389. The only repair that you mentioned which actually requires engine removal is the camshaft. Air compressor, fuel pump, etc - no removal necessary, again, I'm not sure why you keep thinking it is.
Side note in the air compressor - the repairs generally take about 4 hours(ish), so if you're removing the entire engine and replacing the air compressor in 4 hours I'd be really impressed.
Here's the steps to remove the air compressor and fuel pump. I didn't provide the cam because they're much longer and as stated - it does include removal of the engine.Attached Files:

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.
I have a 2015 Kenworth T680 that I had built and picked up from the factory .
Mx13 455hp with 10 speed ultrashift plus and 3.36 gears.
I now have 450k miles on it and have had no major problems. The problems I have had were quickly and efficiently dealt with at my local Kenworth dealer, Pape in Medford Oregon .
I keep a close eye on my business and equipment and track fuel closely. The truck has a lifetime fuel average of 7.25mpg. This is pretty exemplary in that I am always loaded heavy and run out of the Northwest.
I'm very pleased with the truck and the engine.Vampire, gsxrtime, Accidental Trucker and 3 others Thank this. -
I know that the pre-emissions MX engine from Paccar had a few issues but the 2013+ engine seems to be pretty good. I haven't had an issue yet with my T680 but I've only owned it for about a year and half with 350k miles. I'll keep an update if I have an issues. I got my truck from a paccar used truck center because I figured if im going to get a paccar engine why not get it from the people who make them?... lol This is where I found my truck.

They are all terrible post egr, scr, dpf.
if I had to choose one though if you are getting a newer truck. Cummins. Personal opinion.
seems you have to baby them less.
But the norm on every one is

How about ride hard put away wet? How many people check the quality of their fuel? Im willing to bet that if your like me, and you happen to look in the tank after filling up, you hope your not going to have any problems with that stuff and then dump some howes in. How many CDL drivers stop and before they ever operate the truck read the operators manual? Did you know that the MX power band is about 100 to 200 RPMs lower than an ISX and about 4 hundred lower thatn the CAT and N14s of yesteryear. How many people think low boost is an indicator or low power or something wrong? DPF is a filter, anybody ever proactively celan it before its "dirty"? I know we all do it to air filters, why not apply the same logic? Active air fuel managment and unique operating characterisitics of an engine with VGT, EGR and HPCRFI to use Cummins terms means the boost gage is for looks.Whens the last tiem you saw smog so bad in LA you were physically ill, been a few years. We hate emissions controls but they are doing their job. How many of those drivers bothered to check the maintenance schedule? 20% or more idle time is one of the indicators of severe duty service, requiring the more aggesive maintenance schedule, but if you ask all these dealer techs how many trucks they have seen under that 20% and then again how many of those trucks were following the right schedule you'd probaly here less than half and less than half again. Greg Hill was taking respsonibilty for an unfortunate experience, He has some pretty big shoulders. I have expereinced the same type of issue you were a party to with every engine manufacturer, and even some aftermarket parts suppliers. Bottom line, in my opinion, I have seen 105,500 fleets w/ MX's outpull ISXs all day long, Same gears, same brand trucks. MX had faster times and better fuel milage. The repair process is different than what everyone is used too, diagnostic cycle time takes a little longer, many people comaplain of multiple systems needing repair. The MX doesn't break as often(IMHO) but it may take a little longer to address multiple failures. equalling similar down time. The overall lower cost of ownership provides a better overall value ( again IMHO). Technology is changing, the process are changing with it, different will continue to be the norm, recognizing that as such rather than condemning it will yield better resutls and im assuming lower blood pressure.
AND a side note: TO anyone considering a delete. Of course they have more power. a top fuel dragster is a lot faser than my neighbors corevette, but the dragste will go how many miles before an overhaul or blow up? EGR, and emissions are about thermal management. IF YOU PUT MORE FIRE TO THE IRON AND COOL IT TOO FAST, how brittle will the blade become? What longevity will it have? Razor sharp, perhaps? Resharpenable? unlikely. Lower temps, more sustained, the Iron will crystalize in a stronger formation, becoming hard and resilient. The sword of leader, not the machete of the cannon fodder. -
Just throw is out there … there are many 2 million mile N14s out there , never overhauled . How many MXs hitting that mark ???
