Not all companies that train new drivers operate this way, so don't let this guy scare you. Yes they do make money for training...they are doing more so they should be rewarded for it? Yes. Now if you sign up for one of those schools that are highly excelled and get you out the door in 3 weeks then you are just another paycheck to them. Don't expect the 1 on 1 because it will be the trainer and 5 others in your group all fighting for some drive time, not to mention the 4 other groups doing the same thing. My best advice is to go somewhere like Prime inc. where they spend 5 months training you while you are making paychecks. Yeah thats right, training pay is 600 bucks a week GUARANTEED! Top dollar for training pay. You will be 1 on 1 on the road at ALL times. Just you and your trainer cranking out those miles. Trained to the tee is the way to be, safe for you and safe for me.

Okay,
I've read most of the posts from 168 on up. I haven't seen a single mention about contacts. I "normally" wear contacts, but I've been wearing my glasses lately as I figured they'd be easier to deal with in the trucking world. I noticed someone indicated that the trucks have UV tint, I wear photo gray lenses, and they may not work very well if at all (plus since I "normally" wear only contacts, the glasses are my back up and I only have the one pair).
Is there anyone out there that wears contacts? How much of a PITA is it to take them out and put them in at a truck stop? -
I'm not a driver yet - but do camp quite a bit... I have the semi gas permiable (hard lenses) and have had them since Jr High (more years than I'm going to admit to here) - I can use just a sm amount of water from a water bottle over a bucket - that works for cleaning and insertion. Try it at home first - also for soft lenses it might be different. Good luck

You can put contacts in anywhere or take them out without a mirror. Just want to wash your hands prior to handling them. Sometimes I take them out and just put them in solution and clean them later. As far as glasses. If you go in a tunnel with dark glasses you are going to wish you didn't have them on unless they are amber lenses. The glasses that lighten and darken do not adjust quick enough. A lot of tunnels have signs. Remove sunglasses.
