At $3 a piece at Walmart it just isn't worth the hassle and mess of keeping them lubed. When they start getting sticky I buy a new one and put the old one on the trailer of the truck stop neighbor that annoys me the most.

When I worked in the field for verizon, the tower companies and verizon all used the brass combo locks at the gates. I bought 3 myself and used the same combo for all 3.

Lock de-icer is pretty cheap. Carry a can of it with you. I've used it on iced up door locks on vehicles, but never tried to use it on a padlock. Don't see why it wouldn't work just fine.
Lepton1 and Balakov100 Thank this. -
I have had to cut a few too many locks gets expensive.
I'll pick up some lock deicer and try that. Never gave it much thought really. -
Ok totally off topic, but walmart... really? You actually give walmart money... on purpose?
Numb Thanks this. -
So no one has heard of graphite?
Oil tends to solidify at low temps. A graphite dust won't.
Oil attracts dust and dirt. Graphite doesn't.AM14 Thanks this. -

I tend to use Break Free CLP in an aerosol can for cleaning and lubing locks for winter. Tends to keep everything moving smoothly and I've never had a lock Jam up on me when using it. WD-40 will work too but not as effectively or at least not for as long.
AM14 Thanks this.
