I found an add for OTR job. Says it pays through 1099.
It looks like they provide a truck to drive and they have health benefits. I'd guess I'd be responsible for ALL taxes? How does this type of employment work?
I don't want my own business or anything because I'm just starting out. It would be foolish to do that.

Thanks! That's what I'm gonna do. I was just curious about what the ad was saying. -
By being a 1099 contractor at .42/mi, after all taxes you would have to pay yourself, you would be making about .28/mi
texasbbqbest, n3ss, joseph1135 and 2 others Thank this. -
Being paid on a 1099 as a company driver is illegal and you are not covered under workman's comp, unemployment, WARN Act, etc. It's a way for company owners to skirt taxes and leave the burden on you.
texasbbqbest, Numb and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
Good to know. Thanks. Looks like these guys are trying to skirt their way around. I will stay FAR AWAY!joseph1135 Thanks this. -

lots of small carriers pay 1099 because they cant afford real emploees, but there are some advantages like out and back runs and owner knows your name and more planed home time. atleast that's what I heard....
texasbbqbest Thanks this. -
Well, at any rate, I am going to play it safe with a "legit" company with benefits and W2 pay.joseph1135 Thanks this.

Run run away either there broke or cheap and dont want to pay their share of ss tax and or workmans comp cause you'd be considered a independent contractor.
