just out of curiosity what did you pay for it 3 years ago? Seems like it had a lot of miles on it for an 08 when you got it.

Maybe "toomuchfreetime" would be more accurate?

Hey at least he paid the thing off and didn't get suckered into a fleece purchase.

It was 5 years old, 730K miles, a little more than average but a lot of new equipment. 95% tires, new brakes, I wanted a new AC condenser, so on. Truck was tight, no rattles, good tranny, solid on the highway, so I wound up paying $35K for the truck, plus some interest money, 3 year note, paid off 3 months early. I'd do it again, but I'd look for a faster cruising speed. I wanted the '08 for emissions equipment, to run California/west coast legally. Really, unlike what we read in here, the emissions haven't been that big a problem. Routine maintenance, replaced filter at 850K. It was acting up before then, but it's been good since then.

Funny driver story: one male driver said, "I like Cat, for power." I replied with the reason I bought this truck: "I like Detroit for dependability and fuel economy." We both smiled.

That is the key right there. Doing the maintenance when it needs to be done, not running it until it drops. I have seen several emission motors put on lots of miles all because the owner took care of them and replaced or fixed things before they had to walk back down the road to pick them up.. LOL

Design is different, fuel spec is different, oil spec and requirements are different, yet most want to maintain, drive and idle all night or day these new engines the exact same as 30 years ago and can't figure out what went wrong.

I would have no problem with a Cummins motor if I needed something new and EPA compliant. All our newer Cascadias have ISX15's and I can count on zero fingers the amount of times I've had to do a parked regen. Now those Maxxforce engines on the other hand I've had my share of horrible experiences with, but haven't most of us...

Sounds about right. I would drive it and start saving a down payment for a trailer unless you already have one.

Brandon, that's a good percentage choice from this point. I've been shopping for a while. I like the Duraplate trailers, but the condition and final price will play a major role.

Work less. The less you drive the better you'll like it, I do.
