Only makes popping sound when I unkey not when I key up and only does it on the Unidens, works fine on 29 chrome, guess I will take one of the radios with mic into a shop and see if noise can be duplicated and the source can be identified, thanks for feedback everyone.

It sounds like more of an annoyance than a problem.

Well the 68ltd and the 29ltd are the same. I don’t know about the 980 & 880 since the have a 6 pin jack. I haven’t been able to find any info on the mics pinout for those radios.

Your are probably right Rabbi, more annoying then actually a real problem, I say this because I tried SL 41 with 980 and popping noise did not happen however to eliminate feedback have to set mic gain on radio at 50%, I find it hard to believe that modulation is greater on 980 than 29 chrome that feedback would be more , oh well the mic pairs up well with the 29 chrome so I dont want to adjust anything inside the mic, will just use it with the the 29 chrome.

    This might help.

Okay very good, thanks. Well it’s definitely different from the usual uniden/cobra pin out. I figured one pin had to be for phantom power to feed the electret element, I just wasn’t sure which one. Interesting they have one pin not being used.

A couple of months ago I decided to modify my astatic D104m6b mic. I replaced the dynamic element with an electret. I was having issues with the popping sound at the end of my transmissions. I assumed it had to be something with the electrolytic capacitor in the resistor/capacitor circuit that feeds power to the mic element. Thanks to Ridgeline and Rabbi suggesting I replace the electrolytic cap with a .1 or 1 uf non-polarized capacitor. Well that solved my popping problem. I don’t know what they are using for a capacitor in the sl41 mic, but it’s just a thought.

It's all tiny surface mount stuff inside that microphone.

I think I remember reading somewhere on the 6 pin mics, only 4 wires are used.

As I posted a while back the Magnum Omegaforce S45 stock mic works on the 980 so pin 6 must be hot probably similar to the President Grant II.
