I make my 5 year anniversary with PAM on September 17th. I stayed about 2 years too long. When they hired Dan Cushman to replace Bob Weaver as CEO it was purely because the bottom line got affected due to Weaver's reliance on the automotive industry. Since the shift, Cushman, who previously was a VP with CRST and Werner, has designated PAM as a team-oriented company. He's also allowed the training process to be shortened to 2 weeks. Both of these new policies I strongly disagree with and have voiced my displeasure to anyone willing to listen. Cushman never responded to my email. I can only imagine why.
I'm only one driver though, one source of revenue stream. My opinion is meaningless. I tell all of my students to do their year and get a better job with a company they've researched inside and out. As far as I know, Cushman has never been a driver. He's strictly a businessman. The company's profitable, but I'm not seeing the income this year that I saw in 2010 and 2011.
If PAM's you're only option, make sure you read the fine print and note whatever you don't agree with. See if any compromises can be made. Remember, contracts are negotiable. So, negotiate. Once you sign anything, you're legally and contractually bond by your signature to that contract. Fortunately, it's only a year. I wouldn't suggest PAM to anyone, anymore for longer than a year. Training can be a perk but it's becoming less and less of one. Don't be blindsided into thinking it's any better than running teams or being solo with PAM. I'm counting down my days until the beginning of the year when my CSA score is completely clean. It's the only thing keeping me here at the moment. I don't want to settle on my next company, so I want a spotless MVR and CSA before moving on. I've got 3 months until that is the case.airforcetoo, newlife1966 and aka120 Thank this. -
Good luck to you djtrype!
there's a central transport yard there too on the same road but we rarely get sent there.aka120 Thanks this. -
That yard is a nightmare, I ran a load for Central Transport out of Chicago and dropped there at their Atlanta yard.
There was 1 empty PAM trailer, but of course it was packed in too close to other trailers and no way to pull it out. Also, being the weekend no yarddog available. And there was no empty at the Other yard either. Took me about 4 days to get out of Atlanta if I remember correctly. -
My husband has been with CTI for almost 3 years now, and they just laid off everyone at the Rialto, CA hub because they are switching to trains instead. Luckily, he and his co-driver got to transfer to PAM and just finished a 2 day orientation in TX today. I'm really hoping this all works out, but some of the stuff I'm reading on here are kinda tying knots in my stomach.
