    Prime..

I do hope that as a new driver you are NOT considering going lease. Go company. Drive and learn (a lot) before you consider a lease with anyone.

    Orientation..

Hectic! Crazy! Fast! Actually fun really. They put you up in their hotel and feed you. Not so bad.

Equipment.. and you really want to pay attention to any company's equipment since this is where you are going to spend most of your time, once off a trainer's truck.

Prime's trucks are in good shape, usually. Freightliners, on the newer side. Of course, if you're company you'll be given a 'baby' truck, otherwise known as a light weight. I hope you aren't a big person or want to take much with you. With this truck you'll get more pay per mile, of course. I also hope you don't plan, or want, to go fast. They will tell you a hundred million times that 55 is the optimum speed, and you'll be governed at 62mph. Oh, and you'll have some handy dandy 'driver helpers' in your truck. One will buzz loudly every time you go over a white line. The other one will apply the brakes when you get too close to a vehicle in front of you.. or an overpass, a sign, a shadow.. whatever.

Other than that, you could do a whole lot worse.

    Good luck!

And please don't be going 45mph in the dark, with no flashers on. I, and others, run faster and we will run you over! LOL!!:biggrin_25525:

My dad is going to give me his CB, Frig, Microwave and other items he had in his truck so I am fortunate to not have to buy a lot of things for my truck and LOL at running me over. My dad is helping me with pre-trip and getting ready for everything. milkead, best piece of advice on what thread to read is NONE. Stop here. Negative ALL over here. been driving OTR, Regional, and local forever and I will tell you, ive been off the road for 7 years (started a service business) but really miss the road. It may or may not be for you. Go in with a positive attitude, dedicate yourself religiously to your job for the first year. Use the CB only when you have to - Negative Nellies all over that too. when your rollin' keep it off. Prime is a good outfit to Start out with - run a FULL year company before even thinking about going lease. They'll push you to go lease - tell em " in my time". after a couple hundred thousand miles on the road you'll know how you'll proceed, lotta guy's jump too soon and crash.

Do the math, @ 60 mph / 11hr drive allowance , that's 660 miles / day. That's enough to fund your business, get 8 mpg, and get there in 1 piece. Stay in the right lane, and keep the CB off.
