I was making $150-546/week. My partner slept through his shifts. So I was doing all the driving. Plus $45/week towards tuition, $25/wk to PAM for hiring, (until it reached $500) then $36/week insurance & $207 week in taxes. My ex partner only paid $102 in taxes, I guess his county had lower taxes than mine? The day he got fired I got a safety award & a bump in pay to .35cpm. Went to per diem after they took $300 in taxes out of my $500 hazmat bonus, per diem knocked me back down to 25cpm I’m sick to my stomach.

I’m driving solo now around 2600 miles/week. My checks are closer to $650/wk net

We all have full licenses when we join our mentors.

Generally this is true... I cant remember what company it is or what thier training program is like. But apparently they are putting students in trucks with trainers when the student only has a CDL Learners Permit. This permit allows student to drive a CMV as long as a licensed CDL holder is in the front passenger seat. This company got an exemption that states that the student may drive a CMV if a licenced CDL holder is in the truck, but not necessarily in the passenger seat, provided that the said student has passed the CDL test and has yet to receive thier physical copy of the licence.

Wow. Yeah I’ve never heard of that in my life. I thought the permit was only good in school and for the road test.

I used to work for a fertilizer company that had a small local fleet. It would allow employees to use it trucks to practice for the cdl test if they had a permit. The company would let them take loads with another CDL driver in the passenger seat.

I'm not sure about other states, but in Idaho you DONT have to go to a cdl school to get your licence... Dont Even have to get a learners permit... Study and take the written tests, borrow a truck and go take the drive test. Pass both you have your licence in 3 days.

Thats how I got my CDL about 6 or 7 years ago...and my boss at the time paid for the whole $239.00 that it cost me... That's was the tests, the licence, AND my medical examination and card. Didnt Cost me a dime. And he let me use his truck for the drive test.

That’s awesome. Too bad I couldn’t have found a sweet deal like that. My school was 21 days & cost $5995 and I had to pay several hundred in extras (permit testing, license fees, endorsements etc)

I found out (after the fact) that I could’ve paid $1200-1500 up front. Everything is a scam.
