Ok. Live with that. See how it plays out roadside. It doesn't affect me, so I don't waste a lot of time worrying about it. The power unit is what is being driven, per many of the LEO's making the decisions along the road. The MC number is on the tractor, not the trailer. The trailer is the additional component used to carry a load, All the bold, italics, and underline will not change that to an LEO. The tractor is apportioned and the trailer has it's own license. They are not the same entity on paper. Only a permanently affixed bed or box on the tractor to haul cargo, like a straight truck, is the cargo hauling area actually a part of the tractor and qualify as being unladen if empty.

Add Idaho to the list of camera-happy states. As far as I know, they cannot access other states' information automatically, yet, but they can dial a phone.....
We run into Vancouver BC, from SE Idaho, and get our picture taken at least 7 times per trip. But, if customs is backed up and you run out of your 14 while waiting three hours for the FDA to find the correct rubber stamp behind the coffee pot..... paper will prevent a violation.

I wasn't debating. I just outlined how LEO's will view it and why. It seems others are trying to justify a position for themselves.
It doesn't affect me. When I use PC, I do it bobtail. Non issue. -
I am not convinced that many outside of insurance groups and trucking associations are "pushing" ELD's Many are comfortable using electronic logs and not really losing any sleep over the ELD regulations. I guess I fall into that camp. I don't like seeing anything "pushed" on anyone, but I also have little sympathy for those that waste a lot of time complaining instead of finding ways to make it work. ELD's are the rule that we have been dealt. And wishing it would all go away is avoiding reality. I would like to see the ELD mandate rescinded just like anyone else. But one should prepare for the eventuality that the mandate is not rescinded or postponed. And everyone has had 2 full years to get their act together. Waiting to the last minute is a recipe for disaster. Kinda like trying to become a skilled soldier one week before being deployed to a war zone. Doesn't work out well.

To even have this discussion really should make any American pause and review the current state of our Government in the public's life.

Those who would sacrifice liberty for safety deserve neither...and sadly, that is where we are today. Freedom scares too many people these days, as they prefer the illusion of safety provided by big government. Just look at the warning labels! If you don't know that sticking your hand in the path of a running lawnmower blade is a bad idea without a sticker indicating as much, perhaps you don't deserve to keep that hand? Is it really the lawnmower manufacturer's fault you are a #######? Why should THEY have to pay for YOUR stupidity?
kemosabi49, Oxbow, EZ Money and 6 others Thank this.
