When I was a general contractor back in the day, my excavator charged me a $100 set-up fee, $120 an hour to scratch the dirt, lay pipe etc, and another $100 to set his excavator back on the trailer. Same with plumbers, electricians, etc.

A guy I know who is leased on and getting royally hosed week after week, was bee atching to me about a lumber load he did last week for $1,125 right at 1000 miles.

He drove 3 hrs to get it. 2 hrs to load, 18 hrs to consignee with L.A. rush traffic and 3 hrs to unload.

    That's 26 "man hours" for $1,125....

I let you all do the math ;-)

Well, He may not be getting "hosed"... assuming Einsteins Theory of Relativity

The numbers are coming out as $43/hr.

Maybe his truck is paid off, very low insurance, does maintenance himself ---> very low total costs.

What? LOL. Not hardly, man. He's paying the man $2500 a month for his truck, $900 rental trailer, $970 insurance, his fuel, and so much more. At $43 an hour he PAID the man to run that load ;-)

Heck, fuel alone at $3.00 a mile, 500 miles a day, 10 hrs of running at 7 mpg is $21.43 an hour.

$43/hr might be GREAT if you're a company driver. If you're an O/O, though, it's half of a crappy rate.

I dont care if someone gives you the truck for free. Operate at 43 an hour and you won't be in business for the long haul.

Ya seriously. Even the guys down here running without insurance and registration charge more than 43 an hour.

Hey! Hey! Hey!....I never said it was great...but if some old guy is running a 1960 truck, going local, that old guy may be alright....hahaha

But in the example provided above, then I concur, he's getting hosed

That would be true if I wasn't $100+/hr.

58-62hrs worked w/ a dry van consistently, you do the math. Where are you at?

Most dry van guys I know are $70-85/hr , I'm WAY above that.

Kinda funny how being "cheap" is just assumed in the trailing posts lol.

...ELDs.. will cause my revenue production on that Lane to drop to half every week because the second run makes it fairly tight on hours for the week....... And NO potential leniency..... None..... I won't take the risk of being an hour from home and spending 34hrs stuck in the truck for this out of control govt.

Also, There is no way you're going to get to the same place cutting your hours in half, I'd have to be so insanely high on rate at $200+/hr as a routine on dry van freight.

Not very realistic!... That seems to be the norm with the Mandate and it's promoters though!

I'm sure there will be some ELD promoting, pee stained sweatpants wearing driver that'll be happy to take the second lane of the week and cut his own throat at the same time for less money.

This bending over for the government control must be making our founding fathers roll in their graves.
