Mine is an Android (Sony), but most apps (or an equivalent) are also available for iPhones (truth be, I think there are more apps available for iPhone than Android, or at least, it used to be that way).

The scanning app is CamScanner. I used the free version for a while and then upgraded to the premium version (~$0.99, or maybe it was a whole $2 lol), but don't remember exactly why... there was some additional functionality I wanted. You just open the app, select if it's going to be a one-page, or multi-page document, line it up, take a picture and voila... you're done. You can then file, email, print, etc., to your heart's desire.

I replaced my five-year-old Lexmark multi-function printer ($35 at WalMart) with a wireless/bluetooth HP multi-function (Deskjet 2540, on sale $50-ish) so I could scan/copy/print from my phone (no computer required, just download the free HP app for the phone).

I believe Apple's iCloud service is similar to the Google Drive I mentioned. Basically, you select which files/apps you want to have access to the service and it will automatically sync/back-up according to how you have it set. I actually have mine set manually because I wanted to control access (it's a pain if it's trying to access through wifi that requires you to sign on (McDonald's, Starbucks, etc.) and you haven't signed on yet). You can also just email stuff to yourself so there's a back up, then sort it into the proper folder when you're on your home computer. That way nothing gets lost even if your phone goes missing when you're on the road.

A couple other good apps are DropBox and Evernote. Evernote works like a scanner; you open the app, take a picture, it converts it to a document, digitizes handwriting (makes it searchable via OCR) and uploads it to your Evernote account.

When I first got an Android, I thought "Apps? Who needs apps? I've been using smart phones (Palm) for years and I don't need no stinking apps." At last count I think I have 185 (99% free) downloaded. ;)

I have an IPhone 4. I use Turboscan. Real legit in my experience. Easy to use too.

Microsoft just released a new scan app ... I think using it with their Cloud service would work well together... No need to backup data on the PC/Mac hard drive since the data is on the Cloud and since its living on the MS Cloud, it's accessible from anywhere.... Scan, save, done.

i am looking at a completely cloud centric setup... QuickBooks has a cloud service now too... With iPhone and iPad apps... Combined with the MS Cloud and their Office apps...

Pure access from home or the road, from a laptop, desktop, iPad, or iPhone.... And no backup required... Unless you feel the need to backup the cloud files every so often, but I doubt that's needed either as that service is implied with all cloud services.
