Any loss you see can be directly tied to load planners, dispatchers, and customers. None of which you have any control over.

Paperless logs have one undeniable benefit. They lay the blame squarely on the person it should. IE Slow customer, DA dispatcher, or a load planner that couldn't plan their way home from work.

That of course assumes you are doing everything right.

Oh yeah, Ive been asked for my log book 5 times now by either DOT or Highway Patrol... The second I tell them they will have to look at my "electronic log on my Qualcomm" and they wave it away or tell me to "forget about it"

Not one peep or even the slightest intrest from them... Its been 3 level three inspects, 1 traffic stop, and 1 scale house officer spot checking.

Our company is also going paperless in April or May. I have to agree, any miles you lose, assuming you're running legal, can be directly attributed to dispatchers and load planners.

From what I understand if you are over a certain number of trucks then you are required to have electro logs by something something 2011

The benefits are: You rarely get log checked.
Your dispatcher/planner KNOWS your hours so they can plan more efficiently.

The cons are that if you were running sign. illegally, aka you were out of hours and just made a new log book, then you WILL have a HELL of a time adjusting to them

This regards the werner paperless log system, but figured i'd post it here since its going to be mandatory soon! I absolutely hate paperless!

Check this out: I parked last night at the rest area at mile marker 0 in New Hampshire on I-93, near Salem, NH. I sent the macro to say i was now on line 2. I sent my inspection report. A tree or something was blocking my sattelite signal. I drove off in the morning, and of course after a few minutes i got a bunch of beeps, "omfg you're in violation" (it had me on line 4 all night instead of 2, of course).

Got to my customer, and sent a log correction for the line 4 time, after it was approved i checked the log. oh, hey, apparently i drove 111 miles in 1.25 hours (????? should really be 30 miles in 30 minutes) this morning. And yesterdays log shows i shut down 45 minutes before i did. And yes, i accounted for the timezone difference.

    ....

I got the corrections made, but it took about 10 messages to do it, and a phone call, and it wouldve been much less of a headache if i had paper.

I also feel that this thing is screwing me out of time in 15 minute increments very often. So I screw it out of 15 minute increments very often to make up for it. :/

I wonder if i'd get caught if i covered the dish with aluminum foil!

best way to combat this issue is carry a paper log with you and log it legally and have it with you in the truck. btw the copers hate e-logs. unreliable and notorious for logging in correctly. they would rather see a book (ie doing inspections, checking paperwork, etc) than you saying its all on the computer...
If i was you as well buy the logs at your local t/s and then keep your receipt, then invoice the company for the books. It will keep you covered then when DOT does an audit, you have your paperwork all in order and no violations...

I heard the EOBR discussion got tabled again, so there might be a reprieve for a little longer.
