Yet it is hard for the Independent O/Oto make it, They are not going away or being ran off. My Fathers best friend is a Independent O/O and has been for 30 years. He told back when he first started he use fudge his logs to try and make more money, back then you could get away with it. Then he learned how to be smart and run his company better. The last 20 years or so he has logged it legal, no need to forge it. His great service, and being legal, has keep him going this long. He still makes a great living in this rough time for trucking.

When i showed him my Quallcomm in my truck and how it worked, he liked it. He kinda wants one, easy to use. He is tired of pushing pens for logs, hes legal so it would not hurt him in no way.

Just want to be clear... While DDL is a computer based system for logging, at this time it is NOT a paperless log system.

DDL logs still have to be printed and signed daily... DDL is not tied into any sort of positioning system and is ENITRELY user input, which means you can cheat on where you have been and what you have been doing.

The paperless logs are tied to the truck, When the truck moves it automatically puts you on line 3... driver cant stop it, and driver cant adjust it while moving. It also auto logs the GPS position, and milage.

In my case, Within 2 miles of moving my truck, the computer (tied to the truck by QC) automatically puts me on the drive line and there is nothing to stop it from logging me on that drive line unless I stop. I move, it moves off whatever line Im on and switches me to line 3.

I like the fact that I can log a less than 10 minute fuel stop sometimes... DOT cant argue when the computer automatically puts me on duty when I stop to fuel... I pull out back on the road and it automatically switches back to drive line.

Honestly, if your not making money, SWITCH carriers! I just bought my own truck and leased it on with Knight, Im getting my miles, but with that said, my truck payments are under 1000.00 a month! Hometime is every week! I carry my own and never complain (like others). I always pick up and deliver ONTIME, never whine or come up with excuses like plenty others out there. If you cant handle the truck driving job, look for something else. All companies have whiners, there all sitting in the TV room babbling about no loads, or not wanting to do a short load. Enough said. DRIVE SAFE

Believe me, you can make money doing short loads just fine. That's all I do.

Honestly, come back and talk to me in a year, that is if you still have a truck!! Can you say "Mechanic"?? cause your gonna need one before long!!(1000.00mth). Then again, you Might get alittle lucky. I'm currently on my 8th truck, and going to the Mack dealer next saturday to build a 2011 on the computer and get a quote. I think maybe your misunderstanding me. I didnt say I wasnt makin money. I said you cant do it to the letter of the law!! Give it alittle time in your own truck, and I think you will get my meaning. Oh, and congradulations on your first truck, its a fine thing.

Agreed. I usually try to find loads where I can load 1 day and unload the next. Seems to work out better for me. And I stay away from loads with more than 1 drop. (Had a few bad exp. with those deals.) Avrg 6-700 mile trips.
