You do realize that they are authorized to search your whole truck, right? I guess I'm just not willing to take the chances. I'd rather spend my money on myself rather than give it to the DOT...LOL!

yep, they are. But how many times has it happened? you could just try writing on the front of your log book ****eLog Back Up****. Everyone fears the DOT, but they're just people, if you cut them they bleed too. Although I would recommend not cutting them.

My e-log system isn't active, but I've been using it as if it was while also keeping my paper log. What is interesting is how similar the two are at the end of the day. Even at the end of my 70 they are still within an hour of each other. Keep in mind that the e-log is to the second and the paper log to the nearest 15 minute mark. They would have a hard time proving that you were falsifying your logs if the e-log showed and 8 minute break and you logged 15.

I agree, I am going to continue keeping paper logs as well as the e-logs. That way when there is something wrong with the qualcomm, I can still call dispatch get my load assignment, and keep on trucking, putting more money in my pocket. You can sit and wait on the qualcomm to get fixed, and I will gladly haul your pay check away.

You're free to do what you want and I understand what you're saying. I however, always know exactly how many hours I have on my 11 and 14. So if Qualcom goes down I can pick up the paper log from there. In the meantime, I'm not going to take chances with my money when it comes to DOT violations.

No you can't because then you will be in violation because you will not have your last 7 days, which is a requirement.

Yes I would because if you're on e-logs then its the company's responsibility to produce the hours up until the unit malfunctions. Believe me, I had a long conversation with log and safety department about these very issues when they switched me over. E-logs actually make the company more responsible for record keeping than the past. This is why many companies don't want to switch over.

Well I guess this horse is dead... You are going to do what you are going to do, and when I get back I am going to do what I am going to do. Good luck.

Hey, we all do what we're comfortable with. One of the great things about this business is there is a certain amount of freedom. Thankfully!
