this is pretty good but not clear enough. the set up is correct, then turn the wheel right 1 turn, then when you are in position, the corner of the trailer will be pointing at the rear cone, then you make 2 rotations to the left then you back up to the rear cone while the tractor comes into the spot. then just pull up to get straight. oversteering is wht make it hard for new drivers. passenger side is opposite.1 turn left 2 turns right. practice this and you will be surprised how easy it is.

So if you pull into an "iffy" parking lot that you're not sure if you can go completely around, you feel better if you're in the truck rather than "walking it".:biggrin_25513::biggrin_25513:

To start with, we were talking if someone could fit in spot, not if a parking lot was blocked or not. If I'm not sure what's around the corner, I get out and look.

At many of the job sites we go to, you don't know what you're getting into until you're there. We have to make turns using the spread on the trailer to jump ditches and/or take the trailer over big rocks, flower beds, fire hydrants, etc., all without damaging truck, trailer, or property.

If I can't turn around, I've had to back up 1 or 2 miles on several occasions (3 is my record so far). I'm not walking that while my truck is parked in the road. I just learned how to back out of the places I get into and don't make a risky turn if it's too dangerous to back out of. The drivers where I work have the right to refuse a delivery.

And the main point is, I didn't say don't do it. I said it doesn't work for me.

This is what we are delivering with.

Florida requires it too. I had a site side parallel for my test. Got it in with a t600 and 48 footer. Its easy once you get your points of reference remembered.

If it is hard to you then practice.
And pic one is NOT easy.

Parallel parking is something you can practice almost anywhere and without that skill you are not a driver.

And to the person who said his examiner had driven for 35 years and never had to parallel park ? Pfft.. the examiner was not a driver. He was a wannabee too.

    Henley Thanks this.

Blind side, sight side parallel or 90* Alley are one of the 3 choices you'll get on a Florida Skills Test - at random.

Remember - you DO get a couple of pull-ups without failing. Better to take the pull-up, then to cross a line and auto-fail.

    Like anything, it takes practice.

I can parallel park a full rig, easier than a 48' Bus with 8' Trailer (and I've HAD to do the bus/trailer combo many times)...

It's really no big deal once you know the mechanics of it. I run a flat bed and have had to do it many times blind and sight side. With some practice you will be fine
