Well, where I'm starting, I will be pulling alot of doubles. One of the first things I asked in the interview was if I will have to back them up to the dock. He said, "Oh hell no".I don't have any experience with doubles. In fact, I think we only have 1 guy that hauls doubles where I'm at now (FedEx Express). FedEx Freight hauls alot of doubles. Anyway, I asked this guy If I could come in when he starts (nights) & have him teach me how to hook them up. He was cool with that, so, now I have a head start. Piece of cake, BUT, I sure wouldn't want to have to back all the way up to a dock.
lol
p.s. I sure would like to watch someone do it though.

Backing a B-train is not the same as backing a set of pups. -
-
A -trains are a lot more difficult.
I found a reasonably good video for that configuration.

When I did my test in Oklahoma I screwed the left side paralell park all to heck and couldn't save my life if i wanted. Second time I nailed the right side the first time. Crap happens. Im a mechanic and never have I had to or talked to anyone who has had to paralell park.

I just took my CDL test down here in Texas, failed twice because of the parallel park. Kept hitting the curb. Then I learned a secret.
If its for the test mess it up and take the points. Don't even try to get close to the curb. The way I learned went as follows:
1 turn left, back until you see the X of the V of the landing gear line up with your drive tires.
STOP
All the way to the right, back until straight with the trailer.
STOP
Straight line back until the back passenger corner of the trailer is just at the curb.
STOP
1 turn to the right, back until your drive tires meet the X or the V of your landing gear.
STOP
All the way to the left, back until straight with the trailer OR when you see the driver side rear of the trailer start to kick out.
STOP
If the trailer is kicking out, pull forward. If you are straight, straighten your wheels, pop your brakes.
If it looks like you are going to hit or you don't know what your tandems are doing, pull up.
This is just my personal experience but it worked. I am now the proud owner of a class A CDL license.
All my other driving skills were clean and I would have passed the first and second times if I hadn't messed up on the parallel park. When it came down to it, I would rather take the points than fail the test.cavechavez Thanks this. -
Im getting ready to take my skills test here in a week and New Mexico requires tractor and trailer to be in the spot... I'm nervous about that portion. I can nail my blindside parallel with usually one pull up but drivers side parallel? Not as easy for and you think it would be the easier of the two.
