Sucks that your state makes you do it. Mine doesn't but I've had to do it at rest areas at night.

Yes, parallel parking is part of it and it gets used often. It's really not as hard as it seems you just have to make sure you are setup right. If you go to NYC, you will learn to use it because that place is very unforgiving with trucks. Sometimes you won't have enough room to ride a curb until you straighten out so parallel is required. Its not useless and gets used more often than people think.

You must have went to school at Prime because that's exactly what they teach. Our local school here doesn't use that method. More like just get in there and figure it out. Good thing I never went there but I have sat out and watched them do it.

Yep, they teach it, it ain't that hard, and you don't need a spotter. A very handy technique to get that last space at the rest area instead of a $500 parking ticket.

Paralllel parking is a very easy manoeuvre in a rig, once you do it a couple of times you'll get it every time. Don't even stress about it

Relax if a parallel maybe part of the test in your state then you will have plenty of instruction on it, you will find it very useful once out on the road, and isnt nearly as hard as you think. Your instructor will be able to show you a couple tricks which will help you parallel much more easily. The people who are saying that it is difficult are doing so because they just never learned. Also you will enjoy being a rookie who can do something that some folks who have been driving for years and years cant, i know i did.
