Truck has been struggling a little bit on first start, Volts on dash were about 12.1 in the morning. Had to jump it once after the fridge was on for the night.
Batteries and starter are about 1 year old, I disconnected all the batteries and tested them with the old school load tester.
All 4 were 12.4 volts, and all 4 held well at 10.6 volts under load, is this enough? No buldges, no smells.
I checked all grounds etc, and all seemed good.
I think alternator is probably original, so its probably 7 years old, million miles.
If I kill batteries overnight with kill switch, starts good at with gauge showing 12.4
So I am thinking something is draining the batteries, unless 10.6 under load isnt enough?
Best way to test alternator and system for draw?
Thanks

Do a drop test on ALL connections/cables. I bet you'll find cables aren’t carry proper amperage and/or a corroded ground somewhere.
-
Load test is half cca rating for 15 seconds. Volts shouldn't drop below 11 volts.
If the batteries are covered in dirt. Dirt makes a conductor. So the two terminals would be shorting together. Causing a very small battery drain. -
Havent had a chance to do some testing yet, but just went out to see if any hidden lights were on etc, and I found a relay pretty bloody hot in the fuse console.
Truck is off, so I pulled it out and let it cool down, popped it back in and she heated up pretty quickly.
Hoping its just a faulty relay, pulled it out for the night.
No markings on it, so not sure what its for. -
It's not the relay. There's something on the same circuit as that relay that's grounding or shorting.
-
Would removing the relay stop the draw on the batteries? I am pretty sure its for my steps (I am in a cab over argosy with powered steps)
So I can live without them in the short term.Knucklehead Thanks this. -
If the relay stays on and it sounds like it is.
My current rig was slower cranking last month. For a few days. Then it wouldn't start. Relay got replaced. And cranking has been normal since.
It was the ecm power relay. Something to that name. -
Replaced relay and new one got hot, yah.
Its the electrical step motor circuit, anyone know whee to get a cheap step motor for an argosy?
Thanks all -

I am assuming the control module is up under the steps near the motor?
Cheers
