You're right but....Constant regens could point to a failing EGR valve....Delta pressure valve...Or the EGR cooler ready to die....

BTDT enough times....I'd figure I just pass that along to spare others the hassle if possible...

    That's correct for most applications.

Volvo is a different animal it seems.

Apparently when it detects the SCR unit freezing up, or whatever is going on inside it, it will request a parked regeneration because Volvo designed their SCR and DPF to not run active regeneration when running down the road. So in order to clean out its second SCR poop chute, it flashes a "SCR performance low. Engine Derate soon" and calls for a parked regeneration even though the DPF doesn't really need it according to the soot level gage.

Apparently the only way to take care of the problem is run active regenerations.

Also it's designed to idle at 700 rpm to run the "Clean Idle Mode" and uses the Variable nozzle turbo to maintain combustion chamber temperatures but after extended idle during below freezing temperatures it will bump the idle to 1500 rpm and run its own "parked regeneration" for about a half hour to warm things up.

This seems to be the way the system is supposed to run. Check engine light came on after i left but it's a Volvo, so when is the check engine light NOT on!

@truck duo. You know I always read right by this thread and never peaked in. Shame on me. Read post one to be sure of what it is about. I will be participating in the future.
In fact I can tell you I will be at the J in Emporia KS tonight. Have to catch a flight out of Wichita and you know we are chained to the pilot for showers.
