I was in Albuquerque at the TA once and the truck next to me was being repaired. I chatted with the three guys working on it. Turns out it blew the turbo and the owner and 2 mechanics dead headed out from Los Angeles in another truck and trailer, swapped trucks with the driver and proceeded to change the turbo.
He said the TA quoted him $3600 to replace the turbo. He figured coming out himself saved him about $1200.
Once fixed he'd book a load back home.Rocks Thanks this. -
I "hear" you man... TA is expensive...

Well... it seems that repair guy is making some money here...
One truck fixed and gone... and another one being fixed right now..

That would be the drive shaft. The most likely failures would be carrier bearing or u-joint.
Glad they are dropping layover pay to you. -
Yes... drive shaft... that's the word I was looking for...
Seems that repair guy had to weld something...
He carries a big repair shop in his pick up truck...
And he is still working on this second truck... Not sure what it is though...
Oh yes... my co. treats us drivers pretty well....

A Landstar was the victim of a hit and run driver here at the TA. A Werner driver knocked the bumper and took off.
Well the driver next to him got the trailer info and with the help of another Werner driver a call was made to safety who immediately shut the driver down a half mile away. Somebody is getting fired!tsavory, RedForeman, Blu_Ogre and 2 others Thank this. -
Sitting at the Loves in Fernley... We were suppose to have a load out, but the one we delivered in Yerington took too long, so it was covered by someone else. Can't blame the broker for that one... So we sit until tomorrow, watching the musical parking spot dance
peterbilt_2005 Thanks this. -

Driveshafts can cause tons of damage when they let loose.

Ohhhh. Ya. Saw my first snow of the year North of snowville, utah nice and warm at 37°.
I'm up in Boise debating on "onions".
They started offering at $1.50/ mile. At 5pm today they are up to $2./mile.
Do I or don't I? Marbles in a bag..... -
Hey Peter... thanks for the pic...
Yes... repair guy was working on that... he disassembled that, replaced the bad part and welded with a flame torch...
Second truck was repaired too and the "repair shop" is gone now... Everything is quiet around here... so far...
Hopefully will get a good load tomorrow and will get out of here with no problem...
