Gotta love places that are covered with solid ice. No traction whatsoever. Might I suggest getting a bag or two of non clumping cat litter. It wouldn't help getting up the driveway as it would take more than you have, but in those icy parking lots, you could throw some down along your intended line of travel for some extra traction.

Works really well for getting under a trailer when you have to d/h on those icy lots as well. Spread some along the tire path before you get under the trailer and it almost always gives enough traction to get under one and hooked on ice. Apply in reverse to get up and out of an icy sloped dock once you're empty. Stop a little short of the dock on an icy slope and throw a little down where your drives will be so they will be on the litter once you're in the dock then spread some in front along your path once you're in the dock. Be generous with it don't be shy lol it's cheap enough lay it down there. Pulls right out in just about every case unless it's just really steep. One bag in each side box is standard equipment during winter. Much lighter and easier to manage than bags of sand. Just be sure and close it good and tight or you'll have a dusty mess from hell in your storage lol

Used this one instead of multiple quotes...just to make a point......While I think it is commendable that many of you take your jobs seriously enough and do whatever it takes to get the job done...and while I know that NOT gettin into somewhere to load/unload...in the end hurts YOU more than anyone...in terms of lost time/revenue etc....
BUT I totally disagree w/this entire notion of squaring away someone's property...maybe Im just gettin old and cranky(maybe?--lol)and I ve been out here a lotta winters....BUT I aint your snowplow...square your own place away...I got here in this mess...I got here on time...now its YOUR turn...get your chaep ### outta bed early enough to do what it takes to do business properly--or HIRE someone that will....and as for Rock's situation the other morning for example--I live in that area--and know what a #### mess it was...but 90% of the industrial business in the area---was at least squared away enough to get in and out.....and it wont be the first time(or the last) I told a customer(somewhat nicely) to go #### themselves....just cuz they thought it was fun to drive their personal uphill sideways into the lot...but Im not tearin my ride up trying to go up a driveway I cant walk up---and Im not backing into your pit dock that has 2 feet of snow in it...anymore than Im backin in the one that doesnt drain properly and is full of water above my trailer hubs.....just Because you say everyone else does it...RedForeman, peterbilt_2005, flyingmusician and 8 others Thank this. -
Well said brother! I agree

Yeah I'd agree as well and in a perfect world where I owned the truck and could make that call I would.
As a company driver I don't have that luxury and have to make it happen.
In the end I'm not so much 'squaring away' their property as I am making a temp fix for me to get in and out. Shoveling snow or breaking up / removing ice isn't going to happen. If it's that bad I'll just make the call to dispatch and tell them the place isn't accessable. That's happened twice. They called the shipper and cancelled until they fixed it so we could get in and gave me another load.Rocks Thanks this. -
well they dont...MICHIGAN is prime example....had many days toted empties all over , only to get stuck in the parking lot and have to work it free trying to drop and hook...always managed...but most times had to trudge thru the snow everywhere, to get to the door at the customer etc...they dont care.....Dinomite Thanks this.

Are you driving super singles or duals on your cab?
-
well i dont drive anymore, but it was duals..
-
Single chain that fits through the rim one hole, use caribeaner to link ends. It's a quick tire chain in parking lots. Instead of a full tire chain. Not for any speed or distance. Cheaper than kitty liter, reusable unlike kitty liter.double yellow, tsavory and Giggles the Original Thank this.
