I miss the days of interchangeable parts to. I guess being real familiar with the 53's, 71's, and 92's makes me a dinosaur. We got a 8V 92 that is a sweet runner but nobody needs it. I can't seem to throw good stuff away so who knows what I may do with it

i had a 6 110 in one of the boats that was a great engine

a twin turbo 892 loudest engine in the world
except for the 453 generator that sounded like it was going to blow up constantly

The 4 53's are my favorite. Best engine on a farm well hands down. I was always a fan of the turbo/blower set up.

The one reason I really want a 359 is the breather hoses through the hood and the flat top cab, oh and the slight different rake in the windsheild.

I am just a fan of older trucks I guess.

I have steady work and I am ready to make the step , but I really need your guys help...

What should I look at and why ?

    Year.
    Make.
    Model.
    Engine. ( cat, lol )
    Trans.
    Rear.

Any help would be much ablished...

Try to find one that someone else dumped the big bucks in. The trans you want the 3 rd digit to be a 9 for example 16913 which is a 13 speed. The 613 had a lot of howl to them even before you flipped the back two to make it a double over. The rears I would want 402 or 404 Eatons. With 3.55's or 3.70's. If you go 3.70's tall 24's are a must. With 55's you can get by with low pro 24's or tall 22's. If it's a mechanical make sure it's a 425 not all air to air trucks were. Don't be afraid of water jacket cooled 400 hp engines though they are plenty stout and have a race car feel. If course 13 would be my only consideration. Nothing against an 18 other than it's rare to see one in a 359. I prefer a 260 wheel base to 280 for cow hauling.

FWIW we have the same sense of style when it comes to the breathers and windshield of a 59.

    tangerineGT Thanks this.

Thank you wore out for the advice !!!!

I will take all in to consideration when the time comes and I pull the trigger.

And cranky, who would have ever thought a swift driver would be a livestock hauler .. Lol:biggrin_2559:
But I have found what I love and I will only set my goals higher then what I already have .

If I find a 359 that is a good deal then that's what it will be , a pig haulin sum ##### for now then in the future when my plans pan out . I will be doing what I planned on from the beginning. Cow hauling !!

Don't ask why because I don't know why . It's just what I want to do.
