Swinging that 10lb axe (that's the head only, doesn't include the handle.) is a nice workout when you do it for a couple hours.

Doesnt seem like 10lbs is that much until you realize you're splitting hardwood and have to keep control of the axe all the way through.

...and gas fireplaces are an insult. Better than those stupid portable ones you can buy at Wally world...those #### things are a slap across the face.

I use a splitting maul, if you hit the wood in the heart it's usually no big deal to split. I am not sure how heavy my maul is but I do know it's lighter than the 22 lbs sledge I use for driving track pins in heavy equipment. Your right it's all about the swing and control. I have split and carried wood for about 30 years I just always thought it was a hillbilly thang

Ironically yes. I did at one point. ...I grew up on a small farm in North Ga.

This was only my second time splitting wood. I don't think I did terribly, had I a little more control over where the blade landed though I could've cut it far faster.

Im too #### hard-headed to let that happen. Thing is, you're doing it wrong if that axe goes any direction but down.

And no, if yours is gas... Heh...I've got a story about a relative who didn't know their fireplace was gas though. ...that was a hell of a mess to clean up.

There was a bunch of us boys. Dad taught one to swing right handed the other had to swing left as to stay out of each other's way. I ended up being one that swings left, even though I'm right handed.
