How is parking of a rig/combination vehicle typically handled? I assume sometimes you bring back the trailer too?

Depends on your employer, length of home time being taken.
Ability to park close to home, in a secure location.
    Proximity to your home terminal.

Basically, ask your manager. Whoever that might be.

Find the nearest shopping center and leave it in their parking lot. Then complain to the forum when your truck gets towed.

Lol, don't really do that. What I did was I found a local mom and pop trucking company that lets other trucks park in their yard. I have to pay, but at least I know my truck is safe when I am away from it.

You may go to the fuel desk at the truck stop. They have you sign a waiver for dropped trailers. Flying J has the signs of locations that dropped trailers aren't allowed at a bunch of lots in the fine print if you pay attention.

You'll be taking a slot up so try to find approved parking. But a TA & J truck stop is an option.

A lot of ppl are dumb and don't know about registering it at the desk. Usually the thumb sucking idiots on here whining about not being able to go see anything and not get groceries because they are truck drivers. -eyerolls-

Ask your company. I recommend NOT trying to bring your truck home with you. Better to live close to a company yard. This way your truck is left with the company & mechanics so it can be maintained while you relax at home. If you bring the truck home with you that means wasting hours during the week while your truck is in the shop.

Some places to park the truck are self-storage facilities, tow-truck companies, nearby shipper/receivers if they have room.

That's what I do and I own my truck. Get the maintenance done while I am at the house. BTW I can't go home unless the trailer is empty. Some times, the travel agent tries to 'get me through the house' with a load on the wagon. No sir. I'm responsible for the load until I get to the receiver.

If you put it in the shop when you go home you get paid to be at home... Done it many many times. Made 1000's in layover pay.

Slipping the mechanic a twenty will buy you a few extra paid off days. Always leave something wrong with the truck until you get back home.
