Yes people often say how the police will look that other way because they'd rather see a driver sleeping off the road, then driving and falling asleep on the road, well that is until someone parks where their not supposed to be and an incident occurs, then they'll be saying why did you park there for? Hopefully they'll get this expansion of truck rest stops underway real soon.

Don’t feel sorry for the person killed. Trying to pass slower traffic using the right shoulder at high rate of speed. Don’t think that the few seconds he thought he would save was wort it.
Flat Earth Trucker, blairandgretchen, ducnut and 1 other person Thank this. -
Western Distress pulled onto the soft shoulder right in front of the Irving Truck Stop in Auburn, ME yesterday. Couldn't uproot himself afterward. They were using the big mobile wrecker to yard him out...... Just 200 feet and he could have parked on the fuel island, taken 30, a SSS (####, shower, shave), maybe even a full 10, without being disturbed.

no truck stop drama and peaceful sleep.

He was an idiot in a Mustang, so if he didn't get killed there, he would have ran over some people while doing donuts at a street takeover.
The semi on the shoulder was a 2015 Volvo, so that fits the stereotype too.runningman0661 Thanks this. -
Maybe on some quiet area of the highway in the country where it has like a really wide pull off. But I always felt uneasy parking on the side of the offramp are on ramp. You can hear them vehicles flying by you and every time one goes by you you wonder if they’re gonna slam into the back of you. Or you gotta worry about the pounding on the door from the troopers giving you a ticket or telling you to move at 3 AM in the morning.nredfor88 and SmoothBore Thank this.

I always made sure I was totally off the on/off-ramp like off the pavement or else I didn’t do it. I agree it’s not the best idea but the quietness was nice.Lennythedriver Thanks this.

In my almost 8 years of driving I count on my fingers the number of times I've stopped on the side of the road or ramp. And only 2 of those tines was I there any length of time, if at all possible I limped somewhere safe. No excuse if the trucks mobile. Idc if you're out of hours, the truck doesn't magically shutdown. Sit at a fuel island and creep around the lot. That message or text can wait, no matter how important dispatch says it is.

Yep because few are broken down, is my guess.
