I've never had a problem running an idiot out of their bunk with a hearty rappin' upon their door when they park ignorantly and I can't get out.

I've warned them before when I see them pull in and set the brakes.... "I'm leaving here at 3am, and I have to get out".

Sometimes you have to ruin their nap.

Let's not forget about how everyones eyes and nose sting from the ammonia when the sun begins baking the nightly deposits left on the asphalt from lazy inhabitants.

Such a glorious lot we roam amidst.

    Saturday Thanks this.

At the Atlanta Petro, you must spend money in their store or buy a certain amount of fuel. In addition, you could also be forced to pay for a parking spot or leave. I don't think it is right to attempt to force tired drivers to pay for a parking spot and still expect to take their money for fuel or whatever else you may buy at their store. It is nothing short of extortion. Most drivers will just continue on their way rather than paying to park. That could put them and the motoring public in danger.

So the burden of responsibility is on some arbitrary private business to insure they have a spot for EVERY truck driver, WHENEVER said truck driver gets ready to stop? Okay. ... It could be argued that is in fact exactly what truck stops are attempting to do but you're too blinded to see it.

I'd rather be in a truck stop filled with paid parking customers then one filled with riff raff who trash the place. But go ahead and sue the truck stop industry for trying to insure those who truly need a safe place to park, have one and keep us posted.

FWIW. I fought against the rise of paid parking years ago when it began. But then I began to see the reality of trucking TODAY, and that some need place to break when truck stops are always otherwise full, among other reasons it makes sense.

"Supply and demand" always works for all parties. But if you want to invest several million dollars in a property to provide free parking to the first to arrive every day, then pick up all their crap every morning, at your uncompensated expense, you're welcome to.

I am not blinded at all. In fact, I see this for what it really is, another profit stream for the truck stop chains. For decades truckers have found a place to park without having to be extorted. Just because someone pays to park does not mean that they won't trash the parking lot. By the time you pay $20 for a parking spot and fuel to idle in cold or hot weather, you might as well find a motel room. Truck stops are well paid for what they sell. Fuel, food and other items are grossly over priced for what you would pay at other suppliers. If they don't want to furnish parking then they should build fuel stops without parking. Truck stops make money when drivers park. Most will go inside and purchase food, drinks or other items. For almost a century, those catering to truckers have not charged for parking and made a nice profit. This is about greed and shaking down the truckers. If you wish to pay to park after buying 100+ gallons of fuel, be my guest. I choose to spend my money where I can park without paying again.
