I know guys who've been driving for 20+ years and can't back for ####. OTR spends a good majority of the time driving forward You get better as you go along.

If I could thank this 1,000 times, I would. At one of the customers I go to on a daily basis, there's a OTR company that goes there on a regular basis. This is supposedly a company that hires 'experienced' drivers, but I can't tell. I can pull into the customers yard while one of their drivers is backing into a bay, back into my bay, drop the trailer, grab the next trailer, and the driver is STILL trying to get into their bay when I pull out.

You are ABSOLUTELY right! There is ALWAYS something new to learn, and always someone who is better at it than you. And the day a driver (including me) decides they know it all, that is the day they need to hang up the keys and walk away before they hurt someone. I have probably only learned a small fraction of what many drivers who have done it for more than a decade have forgotten! LOL! But I remember how hard it is to be new, and I really love trying to help out someone when I can. There have sure been enough times someone out there was kind enough to help me, and I will never forget that.

HAHAHAHA! RIght on, Rage 18! You are right. The more time you spend in reverse, the better at it you will be. I won't comment on the CB flap.....:biggrin_25514:

I always tried to time it out so my driving time would run out around 5 to 6 pm. I found out there are tons of pull thru spots around this time.

The east coast seems to fill up earlier. The north east is insane. Small lots an filled by 3-4

For one thing I avoid truckstops if I can. A little trade secret: Everyone knows certain areas of the country that parking is impossible. When traveling in those areas, during the day when I see a good place to park, an empty lot, industrial park which allows parking on the street, wide spot in the road etc, I hit the GPS and tell it to remember that spot, make a little note about the location. When I head back into that area I peruse my personal parking locations and options. No you can't have a copy of the list(It is pretty long) but I suggest you make one of your own.

Me, too. I always tried (when humanly possible) to start my day as early as I could (sometimes 1:00-3:00 am) so that when I was out of hours, there was still a place out in the NE to park. It is crazy out there to try to find a place to tuck yourself in for the night!
