Battery replacement is all about the cost from the start. My (EPU) from Tri pac was 2500 cheaper than the diesel version. So if my batteries last 2 years and I buy another set of 4 for about 2500 then I still save more than the APU diesel since I did not run any fuel or do PM service on it.
So far it is doing what I need done. Every once in awhile I will have to start truck for 30 minutes Only thing I don’t like about it is is doesn’t do anything for the regular loads. That is all on the truck batteries. I do have a solar panel that charges truck so that helps.
if tripac is working as should work there will be 50 degree difference between ambient temp and blowed air that comes from evoporator into cabin. Your electric apu is for midwest and it will #### around when ambient is 90 plus...
I had one and with in 3 years I spent over 5K fixing it. So it all depends on what you get and if it was taken care of. Another reason I went with the Battery EPU is because if your truck loses it coolant, you can not run it. If my truck dies in anyway I will still be able to use mine. Last year in Miami summer I had my coolant line snap off and had to get towed. I ended up having to stay the night in the truck waiting for the Dealer to open. Yeah that sucked being trapped in a truck with no AC when it was 90 at night. With this set up I would had been able to run it all night and stayed comfy. Both systems have good and bad to them. For me it would seem like the EPU is the better choice but will find out as time goes by.
I have been in 105 so far this summer and it has kept the bunk area cool 70-72 the whole time. It will not keep the top half cool and that is fine since I sleep on the bottom bunk. It would not be good if you kept the curtain open or window shades open. Also my EPU is the Tri Pac Envidia
well if you will take it to shop for belt adjustment or oil change or alternator change then it may cost more than $2000 ...
