Just cause you have your own truck doesnt mean you run roughshod at most companies demanding what you want when you want. There are even guys running their own authority who have customers to keep happy and probably have less freedom than you Landstar drivers. It's not a bad company I work for. It was in the lease I signed that I have to give notice. That's the difference between the Landstars and Mercers of the world and 98% of other companies like the one I'm leased on with. I'd like to have more freedom but for now I'm comfortable where I'm at. I drove one of their company trucks for 9 years. I take what they offer I dont get to pick from a load board. I get good miles make good money never sitting around anywhere even back when freight was slow. I was told I'd sit in my truck while the company trucks got loads and found the opposite to be true. I'm content for the time being to get in a groove running my truck later on down the road I have other ideas but for now I'm happy. I'm not one of these drivers to just go get my own authority or change companies at the drop of a hat. I was methodical in getting started and took my own sweet time. And my truck didnt come with a payment either.. Everybody has their own way to break into this business...

What you can do if you had your own authority, is either broker off those customers loads or hire drivers to run em when you dont feel like it...

It sounds so simple and easy on a message board. Broker would probably be easiest and best but still there could be problems there. And who needs the headache of hiring a driver? A halfway decent one that would do the job right without whining or tearing equipment up would be near impossible to find. That just doesnt seem like a real option there lol

Your bossman lets you book all the loads and go home at the drop of a h

the problem to day is the guys that these school pump out, just dont know squat about a truck, they can start it , they can talk on the cb,they can barley back up,(wondering how they got their cdl) and just out and out dont care, their there for their few bucks a week and the buffet,,,,,bottom line
a truck is like a wife if you dont pay attention to her and change her oil and give her some maintenance,,,,its just plain gona cost you alot of money if your not a company drive
lol

Ok i was just asking. I didnt really intend to post that last question sometimes my cell phone does weird things.. I'm sure he does then, if I was ever going to put a driver in my truck I'd want somebody with your kind of experience for sure. Most "drivers" anymore would put a small operator out of business quick I dont know how some of these companies get by with the slackers they hire.
dino6960 Thanks this.
