Btw, since this seems to come up a lot, the drug screen I did was urine only, not hair follicle. I don't know if that's just the standard / agreement Houston Community College has w/ that particular Concentra clinic?

Urinalysis is the only test recognized by the FMCSA. Though some companies will do a hair follicle test, they still have to do a urinalysis to comply with the pre-hire regulations.

If a DOT medical has no value and not worth the paper the inkjet printed on... then the whole system should have no value and not worth itself.

Companies insist on getting a new DOT phsycial every interview. Ignoring the card you already possess.

Might as well send all truckers back to the DMV for road tests and CDL tests etc.

Superior will send you to there own doc. I started trucking at 50 also. In my second year I went for a sleep apnea test at the referral of my regular doc. I am overweight now but even back in my 20's and competitive swimming level fit I would snore enough to bother anyone in the room with me and wake up several times a night. Its caused by the soft tissue in the back of your throat. Weight is an issue as is the sagging that happens as you age but you can have aleep apnea with less than 4% body fat. Its more genetic than fitness related.

Wish I had gotten tested years ago. Sleeping with the mask takes some getting used to but after 11 years I cant sleep without one now. Going to renew my yearly med card this morning. Had the last 3 months compliance report emailed to me last week from the cpap supplier. Doc probably wont ask for it but will have it just in case.

Some doctors just like to push the sleep study tests, they are not mandatory. A company might require one, but it is not law.
The same doctors for some reason like to push blood pressure medicine. 6 or 8 years ago they would only give me a 90 day physical because I was 1 point over on my blood pressure. They wanted to give me blood pressure medicine and then retest and give me a 1 year physical. I told them no, I had never had high blood pressure and would just be back in 90 days, which I did and passed. I am 62 now and just got another 2 year physical and have ever since that one time.

Not all companies require a new DOT physical as long as your current one has a few months left on it. Some want 12 months left on it & some less.

I know BP is a big deal... but if its controlled through BP meds, do you get a pass?

I think the short answer is yes but just being on meds isn't an automatic pass, it's just to get you in the correct range which is the important thing. I've known people who were on meds and still had elevated bp so it isn't a magic bullet. Plus those meds have side effects I didn't want to deal with along w/ the cost and hassle.

The side effect of the blocker I use in about 40 minutes the BP drops. Its supposed to stop at about 110/65 one day it did not. I was down to 65/35 which is not much of a existence in life at all. Painful actually. I took care of that with a boost in energy levels. If it did not come up then it will have been a problem which is why doctors don't like to prescribe it.

There are a couple of other problems with BP partly because if it is high enough for me to function like a 21 year old off i go.

One of those days I'll come back home dead from that. But I would go out from this world happy. Better to be a star that burns bright and goes through the fuel by 60 I say. Too many people try to get to 90 and then they complain how much life hurts them. (No wonder...) come out of there and sit in the sun a while down here in the south. That'll loosen them old bones up right quick.
