Hazmat requires what finger printing and BG check?
Should u do it on your own or wait for a company?

Hazmat is very expensive to get once you pay for the finger prints and background... I refuse to pay for that myself... If my company wants me to have it they will have to pay for it. Last I checked it cost something on the order of $200

Bah... hell I spend $150 at the #### grocery store every two weeks. Paying for the hazmat, if it opens you up to better paying jobs, is beans. Invest in yourself.

    dwells40 and Cattleman84 Thank this.

My entire expense for my first CDL was $239... That was all test and endorsements, (excluding hazmat, passenger, and school bus) the drive test, the license itself, and the medical card exam. No way I'm doubling the cost of my license for something that most companies dont pay extra for... Unless they haul the super nasty stuff by the tanker full, and I dont want to haul the super nasty stuff anyway.

    I respect that.

I'm paying for all my training and endorsements out of my pocket because I will not beholden to a company for anything.

Glad you brought up bus and passenger, in your opinion would having those endorsements be beneficial even though you have no desire to haul people around?

If you think these could be a possibility to turn to in hard times I would get them, my sister-in-law has both and makes pretty good money driving school buses and chartered motor coaches... Myself, I know I dont have the mentality to deal with a bus load of people or kids... I'd either leave them stranded without a driver or kill someone to prove the point that I'm serious when I say I'm Captain of this ship.

That is a good way to do it... I learned to drive truck as a kid on the farm so all I had to do was make it official by taking the tests... But that is soon to go away with the minimum driver training regulations.

    LOL!! I'm the same.

    But

Hauling a bus load of old folks to a casino might not be so bad. (chuckle)
