I tried to research this everywhere but I couldn't find the answer, so I figured I'd ask - if I go get my Class B Permit with Passenger and School Bus endorsements, and I take my skills test in a school bus and pass, does that mean I can only drive a school bus or can I drive other buses like Greyhound for example? I am in Alabama, if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Class b with passenger should cover all your other busses. Except maybe those weird articulated busses, I have no idea about those.

GatoTrucker Thanks this. -
You need to test in the School Bus to get that.
Passenger doesn’t cover school bus.
A regular bus won’t cover class A bus either. If you don’t test in a class A bus. You’ll have a restriction on a class A license for that.GatoTrucker Thanks this. -
Yes, you can drive other coach buses like Greyhound, entertainment coaches and even the smaller shuttle buses (class C) that some limo and airports use.
As said above, you will not be allowed to drive class A buses, but fear not there are no true civilian class A buses on US highways anymore. The articulated buses that are used in city transit systems are still class B, just because they bend doesn't make them class A. To be a class A bus it must be a tractor with a detachable trailer outfitted as a bus would be.GatoTrucker Thanks this. -

The only problem I can see is that school bus. Pardon my ignorance on this. However the last "school bus"I drove was about 8 years ago and it DID NOT have air brakes. Not sure how this works.

As a Class B driver here in CA. Having the school bus endorsement and CA Special Driver Certificate, you can dive ANY TYPE bus in CA. EXCEPT as noted above a Trailer Bus. You do not need the School Bus Endorsement if you are not planning on carrying kids. However, the School Bus Endorsement along with the CA special driver cert. is more appealing to charter companies as they do transport a lot of kids. I have been at it now for 4 years. Can't say I love it, but the money is good. Also here in CA you don't have to have a school bus endorsement to haul kids. You can get your passenger endorsement then upgrade to SPAB (School Pupil Activity Bus) which is much easier to get. I'm sorry I can't speak for AL, but hope this helps. P.S. Most school districts and charter companies will train you if the demand is high for drivers. And yes, get the air brake endorsement.

Thanks for all of the answers, guys! In a question related to that, if I were to get my Passenger and School Bus endorsements (of course with my General Knowledge and Air Brakes), and I take my skills test in a school bus and pass, would I legally be able to drive ANY Class B vehicle (ala Straight Truck, Dump Truck, etc) or would I be stuck with just buses and other passenger vehicles?

Yes. That’s how I got my class b. Never drove a bus after that. ( or before)
I have always said; I have Passenger so my dog can ride with me.GatoTrucker Thanks this.
