My company allows passengers and I only need to make sure they are on my border papers.
My wife has gone on two trips with me- a week long each. It was nice to have her along for the company but having that door open at reststops and POI gets old pretty fast. In fairness, I'm required to stop every 3 hrs for a load check and when she is along I can do that.
We stay in motels and that creates a problem. Getting a nice motel and truck parking is hard. And, being in a nice motel and having my 10 almost up creates some "anxiety"!!
My next trip to Cali will have her in the passenger seat!!
Ask your wife if she would want you at her work for two months and if it would affect her productivity.

FMCSA regs require written authorization, from the carrier, for any passengers.
    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=392.60

392.60Unauthorized persons not to be transported.(a) Unless specifically authorized in writing to do so by the motor carrier under whose authority the commercial motor vehicle is being operated, no driver shall transport any person or permit any person to be transported on any commercial motor vehicle other than a bus. When such authorization is issued, it shall state the name of the person to be transported, the points where the transportation is to begin and end, and the date upon which such authority expires. No written authorization, however, shall be necessary for the transportation of:(1) Employees or other persons assigned to a commercial motor vehicle by a motor carrier;(2) Any person transported when aid is being rendered in case of an accident or other emergency;(3) An attendant delegated to care for livestock.(b) This section shall not apply to the operation of commercial motor vehicles controlled and operated by any farmer and used in the transportation of agricultural commodities or products thereof from his/her farm or in the transportation of supplies to his/her farm.[60 FR 38747, July 28, 1995]
Your carrier may or may not allow passengers. If you are the carrier, you still need to write authorization. Although not required to carry the authorization, on the truck, it doesn't hurt too.

your government has way too much time on their hands. I'm sure you could find an fmcsa ruling against scratching myself while driving. A person could get a major headache reading what button down collared dipsheets have to say about our industry.
