tnpete brings up a good example, and one that too often occurs in far too many passing situations.
That is,, the slower vehicle in the right lane will "mysteriously" find his accelerator only during your attempt to pass.
What started out as a normal safe overtaking of a slower vehicle, suddenly becomes a "death race" apparently because that driver feels "inferior" simply by being passed.
I've had it happen regularly, but try to avoid those morons at all cost. I won't attempt to pass anyone for just ~1 mph. Too many do.
Typically my gov speed and pulling power is greater than most of these race-morons. So I can pass & say Bye-bye quick enuf.
I'll back off if it's best, but most times it's safest for me to just get as far ahead of them as I can.Last edited: Sep 15, 2013
tnpete and fr8te_sh8ker Thank this. -
Please don't try to pass, unless you KNOW you have the ###!!! If my c.c. is set @ 60 and you still can't pass, you'll be messin with my fuel mileage!!
But if I'm coming on the get on,I ALWAYS let the traffic in bc they are faster. But once I'm up and running, sometimes I run into the occasional so called alpha male that doesn't want you to pass him, then I mash the gas! Lol
N fly by then get back to granny speed to save the $.

The Smokey Mtns. What you have on that big truck? 4X8 board. Didn't bother to tell them it was Styrofoam board. Left lane most of the time. TMC, Prime, Others cried that day. 60 in 9th gear. Every Dog has it's day.

Husband was passing a slower vehicle on a 4 laner, was getting ready to pull back over into the right lane when a car tried to pass him on the right. Didn't know a cop had seen what happened that had been sitting in the construction area, needless to say the car got pulled over for trying to cut him off and takeover his safe zone. Wish more cars were pulled over doing this stuff.tnpete, paul 1052, Charli Girl and 1 other person Thank this.

My truck isn't governed and can do "go to jail speed" but if I'm not in a hurry and chasing mpg's if I'm closing on a slower vehicle and someone faster is coming up on me in the left lane I'll kick the cruise control off let them pass then I'll pass the slower vehicle.
That said... if I had a dollar for every time I was in a hurry running the speed limit or a little above while in the left lane catching a couple trucks and some clown in a plastic governed company truck cut me off doing 10 mph or more slower than I was just to take almost a mile to pass another of his breed and making me hit the brakes hard... I'd be King Tut rich.
It still amazes me how the guys with faster trucks can do the speed limit in C zones and small towns on 2 lanes but the guys in governed trucks can't.Charli Girl and tnpete Thank this. -
I have this stupid program in my truck that tells me how fast the guy in front of me is rolling and and how many feet he is away. I run 62. I don't ever jump out in front of a faster truck in the left lane. Period. Now a 4-wheeler, that's a different story.

This is a prime reason you can not have a rookie training rookies .
These guys doing the cutting off and taking miles to pass are just trained by ignorant trainers that don't know any better than the 3 week wonder that they are supposed to be training !
The rest of the ones doing it are just a bunch of idiotic jaggoffs !!!! -
True, some trainers are just plain blooming idiots but I wouldn't be so quick as to blame trainers for a lot of what happens out there. Rookies need to think for themselves and not follow the trainers leads.Alittle common since goes along ways. Many drivers just wanna feel big and bad and don't care or have any respect for traffic the laws and those oddly shaped objects the good ppl call signs.
