    I start practicing next week for my road test. I am learning on a manual truck, which I am really excited for. I am nervous to learn how to shift Though Because I heard that points get taken off on the test if you grind the gears. Any advice? I am also nervous about backing. Any advice?

    Double clutch. Plus lots of YouTube videos on it.

    We ground the gears so bad I’m surprised they had any teeth left.
    And everybody passed.

    What do you mean, "double clutch"? That other pedal is the brake!

    That's a good one lmao...pumping the clutch twice when shifting. Takes practice.

    More specifically, tap the clutch to come out of gear, then tap the clutch as you slide into the next gear. YouTube is your friend here...

    You must learn the way of the nudge.

    You just nudge the clutch.

    The hugest obstacle to overcome is students go way, way, way too deep on the clutch pedal.

    The way of the nudge, must you learn.

    Don’t be too fast don’t be to slow. Upshifting will be easy, down shift is what you need to learn.. all trucks will be different but downshifting was based on road speed
    If it’s a 10 speed I learned 25 mph is 2+5=7th
    35mph is 3+5=8th...45 is 4+5=9th
    6th=20mph 5th=15 4th =8-10mph 3rd=6-8mph
    2nd=3-6mph.
    5th and above requires a big rev to about 1500... I guarantee your first couple of drives you won’t rev it enough. 4th needs about 1000-1250. 3rd and below is just a tap. Now in school you’ll probably never downshift past 4. But there will be a time where you’re at a light and just for fun you’ll try it once you gained some confidence.
    13 and 18 speeds are essentially the same if you happen to get those. It’s a H pattern like the Arcade racers. Think 1234-5678. Difference being you can split gears 1234 on a 18 where you can only split gears 5678 on a 13.
    Downshifts on a 13/18 Would be
    7th =45mph
    6=35mph
    5=25 mph
    4=15mph
    3=10mph
    2=6 mph
    Now they aren’t 100 percent exact but those are the numbers you’re looking for

    Yeah this is one thing I saw. Have to get out of the 4wheeler brain. Cuz cars you always, or at least I always, put to the floor.

    But I saw with trucks it's just enough to ease out and in gear.

    No sir, going to take more than "tapping". Severe grinding unless pushing the clutch in about half way. during shift points. Never to the floor like a 4 wheeler to the OP.
