As long as you aren't one of those dicks that's crawling up a hill loaded and tries to pass another crawling loaded truck. I followed a guy the other day that did that. 10 km/h rolling roadblock for over a kilometer. No reason for it. Especially when the guy ended up 2 truck lengths ahead of the other one at the top. "Slow clap"

Crawling up the grapevine on the 5 in Cali, that's considered normal.

I've never been there. This hill was only 2 lanes each direction, so it backed everything up.

If you can safely pass without holding up traffic go ahead and do it. When you crest the top get back over in the right lane and be courteous to others.

Sad but true these guys will travel to the top at 12 mph in the passing lane, but if you go out one more lane CHP will write you for a lane violation.

Ain't arguing with you. The grapevine is north of L.A., the summits 4000', it's got 4 lanes but we can only use 2 of those lanes without getting a ticket. Lots of times I would deliver in Bakersfield (I flatbed) then deadhead to L.A. Drives me nuts rolling empty and I'm stuck behind a rig going 29 mph passing a rig going 28 mph.

I wouldn't do it unless I knew I could do it quickly and traffic was light too.
