If I am faster than whatever is in front of me, I am passing it. That includes LEOs if they are traveling below the speed limit. The object of the CPM game is getting miles behind you as quickly as possible. There is no bonus pay for being the nicest guy on the road.

In any case, if I get passed by the same vehicle further down the road, what's the harm?.

My pet peeve is drivers that can't/won't maintain speed. My truck is governed at 69, and on this last trip home, I passed a guy because he was doing 63. Couple miles down the road, he creeps past doing 70-71. Then he speeds up to 73, and I eventually catch up to him as he's doing 65 again. And those numbers are taken off my onboard radar, not just guesstimates. At no time in the leapfrogging were there any other trucks being held up behind us.

I often run into this quandary, especially running 5 North through central Oregon, where it has a lot of level stretches, then a pretty steep short hill, then back to level.

I am often pretty light headed that way (Harbor Freight Tools, Cost Plus, Owens Corning insulation, etc, but I am governed to 61-62, so I can often fly up the hills, and then continue at the same speed on the level.... *sigh lol

I often see the same trucks many times along there, as I catch up and pass as they crawl up a hill, and then they pass me with speed just before the next hill.

Sometimes if I know a truck is just going to pass me again, and I get to them near the top of the hill, I will just dump some gears and crawl the rest of the way up with them, and let them go ahead.
But if I catch them halfway up, I am going to fly by them, and not feel bad!

But! When they get to me later, once they start their pass, I will often back off so they can get around me fast and easy.

I tend to do this when I am able to, if I am just running on cruise, and have rpm to spare, it is really easy to back cruise off a couple of clicks, wait for them to get ahead, and then run it back up.

So if you can pass safely, do it, but see if you can make it nicer for the other guys too.

Always a good idea to pass LEO's if they're lollygagging up a hill.
    NOT!

Sometimes they're just on a fishing trip...

During the day I'd not bother leapfrogging and potentially being a roadblock.

Night time its just us....so let's see whose truck can fly down the fastest.

The truck that hangs back below the speed limit unwilling to pass is most likely the one with something to hide.

    Set that hook!!!

I pass cops quite often wheather it be on a flat or a hill. If they're not doing the speed limit I'm going around.
I hate when I'm strolling down the hwy and come up on rolling roadblock only to see its some jackwad scared to pass a cop.
Never once in 27yrs has a cop pulled me over for passing them.

I prefer to NOT PASS a truck I know will be faster than me on the flats, IF flats are the majority of the trip over next few miles. However, if you are substantially faster on the hill so that you will get say a half-mile ahead of the truck that is faster on the flats, then why not? I don't want to start a passing carnival with a particular truck if there is not some clear reason to do so. I'd rather that I slow down for the next minute than pass and re-pass and pass again for the next few miles. Take the action that will end the process for good.

Smith, Sexton and Stagepass are all getting crowded in the daylight hours. it seems even light you end up slowing down to 38 mph at least once.

That hill n of hugo is dangerous with the hands that pull out and pass without looking.

I-5 in oregon is 55 mph or did they change that. i read it was only 84 that bumped up to 65

Grapevine out of L.A. has been a traffic jam since the at least 70s going up the hill.
