Yeah, yeah. I'm "wreck less" alright. Got me pretty #### far over the years. Must not be as reckless as you keep trying to say it is.

And I would love to see any one of you drive "slow and steady" through the kind of traffic there is out here. Slow and steady right over the top of the cars that stomp on their brakes right in front of you, yeah right.

HMMM so what your saying is your fast aszz way of driving you avoid wrecks ?
Whom are you cutting off while doing this? It takes a "few" feet to make a "proper" lane change .
Oh and if you weren't following to closely you would not run over the car in front of you now would you ?
In traffis its best to let the other guy act a fool .
You have only been driving 4 years soo you will have a few scrapes yet grasshoppa !! :biggrin_25525:

Let's put this in perspective...I have, in going on 16 years (OTR) 2 million safe, accident free, and ticket free...(excluding a few over weight scale jabs) for the last 12 years, miles under my belt. And that does not count the close to 1 million miles that all my students, and team drivers put under my pillow. In these years I have driven to and through all the lower 48 states, and did one job into AK...still trying for the load to Hawaii, but someday I will fly over there and haul one load (no pay, no charge) for some company, and have all 50 shot glasses on my mantel.

In driving all the lower 48, you cannot name one major city I have not encountered...many, many years of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, NYC burbs, Boston, Philly and Pitt, and delivered one Christmas tree to the White House. In all these experiences in the majors, I found that going with the flow did not lose or gain me any more or less time than the first two years I was gung-ho and full of pedal to the metal...what it did get me was about 3,000 dollars in lost income from paying the tickets. And being an "old gray fart", even when I was 40, it didn't take me all that long to figure out that I could have put that 3k in my pocket if only I had gone with the flow.

I don't know how much L.A. time you have achieved, but I have found that the slow lane isn't always the "slow" lane...it crawls right along and I get to look out my drivers side window at some mighty fine cleavage, and the same cleavage gets a second, third, and fourth look as I walk right on past time and time again. I do hope you understand what I am saying...cause my lessons aren't always given free of charge...in fact, why don't you send me 5$ for this lesson...just mail it in care of: "The Old Farts Club"...all us old slow fools will have a beer and sing a toast to you!:biggrin_25523:

Ok, there's 2 supposedly experienced drivers claiming that nothing ever cuts in front of you. Anyone else want to chime in on that?

You're also still claiming that I'm running fast. The whole #### highway is running fast, I said that and you can't seem to comprehend it. I go with the traffic running faster, not the morons running 75. Said that already too. That would be going with the flow, now wouldn't it. Duh.

So now that you have claimed to be doing the same thing I do, going with the flow, I guess you're a reckless maniac too. Darn.

I had a truck loaded with propane tanks pull across in front of me the stopped in the right of way and looked at me like I didn't exist. That would have been a pretty explosion. :biggrin_2559:

Anyone who thinks an 80,000 lb truck should be running at the same speed as all the 4 wheelers around it needs to examine the stopping distance of that rig compared to the stopping distance of a car. I am most comfortable when 4 wheeler traffic is moving away from me about 5 MPH faster. They are all going 10 over the speed limit anyway and its the only way you will ever get enough of a cushion in front of you.

Yup, that's exactly what they do. I adjust my speed to keep that space open in front while moving with most of the traffic. The ones really going fast have the left lane to use. Right lane is slow, unpredictable, and dangerous most of the time. That doesn't mean I never use it, I do when it's clear. But I'm not going to sit over there and wait for the next boxtruck to come flying down a ramp and t-bone me.

That's what I've noticed about the center lane. People will still cut across in front of you, but they're usually headed for the right lane to get off that exit they forgot about. They'll hit their brakes going across but they'll be out of the way to the right before you get to them. If you're in the right lane, you're stuck. I avoid being over there in anything more than moderate traffic.
