The lane for the best fuel mileage will be the lane with the least stop and go or the least variation of speed. Do some of you know how ignorant you sound when talking about how this driver doing the speed limit in the center lane is breaking the law by not moving over or failing to be courteous to other drivers by not moving over so that they can speed and tailgate others while breaking the law. Do you realize the poor judgment on your part to get tickets for your company so that a load of freight will not be late. Dispatchers know which drivers are ignorant enough to take chances of getting a ticket to deliver a load on time. They will use you until you get too many tickets and dump you like a hot potato. Go read some of these other post on other threads of drivers crying the blues because they have too many tickets and can't find a good job or one at all but it's always the companies fault or the police was picking on them and they did nothing wrong. BS. I got my last speeding ticket in 1983 when my boss at the time laughed when I asked him to pay two tickets that I got when delivery a load to CA when I thought I was doing him a favor by running day and night for two days and two tickets later was on time. I was wrong, he used me and then refused to pay two tickets for a total of $200. He did me a favor because I turned my keys in and have not wasted my money or sleep for a company since. If you want to be the company fool then keep on paying for tickets out of your own pocket or losing sleep over their freight. I run the second lane from the right when traffic is heavy because that is the safest and gets the best mileage. I run with the flow of traffic up to five mph over the speed limit. If you want to run the outside lane or pass me on the right then go for it because you don't worry me or impress me one bit. If you think your going to be the first to act like a child and call me names on the radio or give me the one finger salute after 32 years on the road you are wrong. I have baited drivers with a question of 'would you slow down five mph to save the company money' and the answer 9 times out of 10 will be hell now. But then start talking about how I made it from NY to LA in so many days or hours while speeding and no sleep and these very same drivers will tell these stories and brag about how many tickets for speeding and log books they received for their company. If it wasn't so sad it would be funny how these drivers are being used and they think they are heroes. Here is something to keep in mind when driving, lack of planning on other drivers part or the companies part does not constitute a emergency on my part. I drive my truck not the company how about you?
