Ah if it's a 1998 it probably doesn't have the override.

With 2 lanes, there is nothing difficult about it. I just hug the shoulder for whichever lane I am in.

3 or more lanes, it just takes really good lane placement so I don't give either lane to my right or left too much.

I do have to thank running oversize for really sharpening my lane placement skills.

You would be better served to stay in the right lane, then maybe take up a tiny bit of the middle lane.
Sounds to me, by your description, you are hogging up the middle lane, basically forbidding anyone from getting around you on your left? If this is true, that makes you a road hog. You stand a chance of some 4 wheelers or jerk 6 wheelers to come up on your right, if you are staying in that middle lane.

We bigger trucks would get around you on your left. I know I'd do that, get around you on your left, then if I have to hit even slightly the left shoulder I will (and have) getting around a wide load. But most times, I have seen wide loads, move over to the right a bit more, as a courtesy. Can you please explain your hogging up all 3 lanes?

as i was driving today, one of those trucks stay two right lane highways, i thought about this thread

since many of us do not have old-school teachers, a father or uncle who taught us how to really drive a truck, but we rely on the insurance agents that double as safety managers at megas, who refuse to accept the realities of driving a truck.........it would be nice if TTR was a place where drivers could actually learn a thing or two

the advice given here is common sense and common courtesy, and yet, even on TTR people poopoo such teachings

passing, riding the middle lane, merging, not flashing your brights, proper use of the CB, two truck elephant races, are all too often the result of folks who dont know, dont care or dont care that they dont know

If I disagreed I'd not only be a fool, but a steering wheel holder. And I am neither.

...I would love to have one of those attached to my rig. Some of those steering wheel holders and fools could be taught a lesson or two. Or three...or...
