Layovers happen, breakdowns happen......
Realistically most regional is probably in that range, and if a minimum of benefits are there you should be able to find a decent driver.

When I book a load that requires tarps, I make sure it pays enough whether it is calculated all in or separately. I wouldn't short change myself, so I wouldn't short change anybody else doing the work.
But we can also calculate it from a driver labor standpoint.
60mph x .47 cpm = $28.20 per hour.
1 hour to tarp + 1 hour to untarp = $56.40
This is also physical, sometimes high risk work. If anything, they should get more than if they were sitting in the driver's seat in a climate controlled cab.jraulpilot1998 and Ruthless Thank this. -
Honestly most of the loads the tarp fee is not broken out extra it's all in the line haul rate. 90% of the time there is no distinction.snowwy, jraulpilot1998 and Oxbow Thank this.

If a man signs on to pull a flatbed he knows he'll have to throw the rags time to time. Idk why everyone wants to make such a big deal about tarping. All that being said, I still hate to tarp as well. Plus everyone has an opinion on what it's worth.
hour to tarp and another to roll them up? It shouldn't take more than 20 min on each end. Always exceptions I know.....jraulpilot1998, nightgunner and Oxbow Thank this. -
I'm sure there is trade-off between safety and "hustling" which should be considered. Lack of safety can hurt your bottom line in numerous ways.jraulpilot1998 Thanks this.

By hustling I mean not wanting to go home at lunch everyday.....jraulpilot1998, Oxbow and Travelling Accountant Thank this.

Offer them a fair percentage then offer them 23cpm for deadheading more than 125 miles. That's what tmc offers
jraulpilot1998 and strollinruss Thank this. -
Good thought. I run into that issue at times. Usually the load going to dead areas more than makes up for it.jraulpilot1998 Thanks this.

That or takes 14 hours to accomplish what could have been long done before lunch.strollinruss, jraulpilot1998, nightgunner and 1 other person Thank this.

Yeah but the Wal-Mart drivers get $9 to arrive at every stop, $9 to leave every stop, $11.50 to live unload up to 45 minutes, $42 a night in the truck and are paid HUB miles.
Probably not a fair comparison to the average freight schlepper paying roughly 60k a year.
