Most of the guys on here doing flatbed with Landstar have super sleepers, make $125K yearly, and only run 6 months a year.
I'd do that if I were you.

Something I have noticed about some of the folks with some of the nicer rigs / setups, is they've been playing this game for awhile.
I will give you this tip, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon.FlaSwampRat, jsnell, Coffey and 7 others Thank this. -
I've also seen some guys with some not so nice stuff, that had nice stuff once upon a time, that lost their ### for various reasons.
FlaSwampRat, spyder7723 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Love the sarcasm even if he totally missed it lol
FlaSwampRat and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
disclaimer. I am not singed onto either company.
Do know a number of people that are with these companies.
Based on conversations with these people, both companies are about the same operation.
One point to Schneider, is the load board.
You will book your own freight and not have to call an agent to get load info.
The fuel program at Schneider is not that great. Most people opt for a NASTC card for fuel.
Landstar seem to be a bit better.
Maintenance and parts discount programs are identical.
With Schneider, As an IC, you can use Schneider's OC’s for services that may be offered. They have a number across the nation.
Now down to the bottom line,
They operate almost exactly alike.
each has a plus here a minus there, the differences are minor at best.
When all said and done, and the bookkeepers and accountants are done and forms filled out. Out of 7 people ( a few more at LS) the revenue numbers were less than 2% difference, highest to lowest across all of them.FlaSwampRat, roshea, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -
SL3406, jsnell, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this.

I've never pulled for Landstar, but I kinda get the deal.
The biggest positive I would say at Schneider is that you don't have to talk to people or negotiate rates. It is what it is.
But, I guess if you find "the guy" at Landstar, you can really do well. I've just never have been able to find "the guy". So, Schneider works better for me.FlaSwampRat and nikmirbre Thank this. -
The LS people are sort of split with van and flatbed.
Location wise, a good mix, some on east coast, a few out west and a couple more along the I-20/10 corridor.
most have been in their current lease companies from a low of 5/6 years to a high of 10 years.
It really comes down to what works for the individual.
Both companies offer a systems that are so close in operation, it hard to tell them apart. As said above, I am not leased to either of the companies. The information comes from those that are. My comparison is based on the information they provide, It is a small sample of people that are with both companies. Could information be missing, sure, it is a small sample. All seem to be satisfied with the place and situation they have. That is really what matters.FlaSwampRat, D.Tibbitt, nikmirbre and 2 others Thank this.
