UPS you have to make a career decision. You have to do like 6 years or better in the warehouse sorting packages to become a delivery driver. They are also teamsters. The one's here in Phoenix make $32/hr. plus OT.
So you have to keep your eye on the prize.

They actually had 2 OTR positions listed here at least. I heard the same thing about building seniority as well though. These were for semi trucks. The pay sounds really great though. Ill call and look into that one. I applied for Fed Ex as well. Heard they hire new drivers sometimes too.
-
Those are UPS contractors, not company drivers.
The $32/hr. is package delivery in the step van. You have to do like 10 years in that, before you can get in a company semi. But then you have arrived lol.SingingWolf Thanks this. -
At that pay I could have my uniform custom tailored

Heidelberg is very internal they like to hire through referrals and almost never publicly advertise for help.
Have you tried Martin Brower of Cinncinati?
Or Black Horse Carriers at the Aldi Disttibution Center?
Martin Brower would be one of my top picks $80K a year.
Also do your self a favor and check out the post office. If you think the compensation at UPS is good wait till you see the Post Office.
City Dash they haul loads for Value City Furniture.
Have you checked out the contract mail haulers?
Also US Xpress has a dedicated fleet doing loads for Kroger.
I would check the Post Office first and then Martin BrowerPontimaniac and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
I've never heard of any of those other then US. Xpress. I'll look into those now though. I think i looked into the post office as well but also said you have to have some experience under your belt to apply there. Does the step van drivers for ups make more then the ones who drive semis or something? I might invest some time to make 30+ a hr lol.

These recruiters are like used car salespeople. They will tell you ANYTHING to get your signature. Before biting on any of these, go to a truckstop and talk with some of that company's drivers.
Maybe, maybe not. They could be just flat out lying.
You have learned well sir!
Doubtful, unless their first company is a union job.
OK, I'm not saying this is impossible. BUT I believe you are shooting yourself in the foot, to only look at companies that can promise you this. I repeat what I said earlier. The recruiters will tell you ANYTHING.
That being said, my second company got me to the house a couple of times a week. Regional reefer outfit that at the time, was pretty much running California to Nebraska or Kansas, with drops in Denver. Being in SW Utah, put in a very good position to get drivers home a couple times a week. But, getting that job was pure luck. Happening to be in the right place at the right time.Mike2633, SingingWolf and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
They make the same, it's just the semi drivers don't work as hard. If you can even call what they do work lol.Pontimaniac Thanks this.

With over 20 yrs. experience I hired on with a company that paid .36 cpm, but at the end of the year I made $65K because of accessorial pays added in. I was content with that.
The company usually didn't hire new cdl grads, but while I was there they hired two. Both drivers made around $65K their first year.Mike2633 and Pontimaniac Thank this. -
And that is one of the bosses selling points. You'll have 1 or 2 nights a week at the house and a 34. That's why he doesn't pay the high wage per mile, but the truck doesn't stop.
He won't even hire anyone that doesn't live reasonably close to or in Phoenix. Cause everything goes strait out then strait back, and everything here in town is D & H.
I was going to buy another truck and start going Albuquerque and back, El Paso and back to be home every other day, then he gave me the local job.Big Don Thanks this.
