Well yeah... You know, if you can pay 1200 a week for inexperienced drivers nobody would complain. But if you pay 700 a week, you have to consider something...

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You treat drivers the way you wanna be treated and you'll have some real good employees.Problem now is companies don't care which makes drivers don't care. Why bust their ### when companies don't care about the drivers and don't pay a decent wage.I know if I don't get paid what i'm worth I tend to have a no care attitude. You seem like a nice guy that'll treat your drivers right.

I did 43,890 first year pulling a van and home almost every weekend. I didn't go with the usual suspect bottom feeders though. I wouldn't turn a key for the $500 a week crowd. I have 20 years+ senior management experience in another industry prior to coming to trucking and to that mindset I think if you pay 500/wk a 500/wk driver is all you'll get. High hiring standards and even slightly above average pay will garner a better class of driver than a $500 wheel holder. But that's just me.

Going into year 3 I'm looking at 53-55k range and still quite a few annual increases before I top out.

Wish you best of luck with the expansion. You're one I follow on here you seem to really have your act together and run your show with an integrity that's sorely lacking with all but a few companies out here. You sure seem to be one who does his homework.

That would be great week after week and some do make that if they run dedicated accounts and mostly drop and hook. But for OTR and general freight, pay is pretty much the same no matter where ya go for newbies.700 a week wouldn't be bad but the problem is not many newbies are,nt making that. Some make less then what trainees make.Werner for example is notorious for that.Ive heard bad stories about England and CRST as well.Megags only know you by trk number and every driver is treated equally, like crap. Many good drivers out there but do companies see that, heck no they don't.They're loyal dedicated to the company and for that they receive poor pay.

I can spend hours on the way others treat people but I only have control over myself and my employees. Pay is a part of it and important but I think being treated with respect is as important if not more important. As a carrier I am limited by certain realities of the economy. But nothing is restricting me with how I treat a person.

Thank you for the kind words. We have worked hard and are seeing more and more opportunities.

Your start pay is reasonable. One of the reasons I'm not talking miles is because I am a strong believer in having a work/life balance. I would rather pay a better mileage rate and run the driver less miles.

My boss seems to have no problem absorbing the $2000/week I burn up in fuel. Its time companies absorbed some descent driver wages.

    Bill,
At SNI new, no experience drivers currently start out at .30 cpm, after 6 months it bumps to .32 cpm, after a full year, .34 cpm (provided no preventable incidents). After that all pay raises are based off of performance. There's also the quarterly bonus system where drivers can make an additional .015 to .025 cpm if they obtain a high enough score based on eta accuracy, days worked, accidents, fuel compliance (fuel where SNI wants you to), and OOR. Add in the short haul pay and most of our guys with 6 months experience are making .33 to .36 cpm to the hub, depending on how smart they work.

I am sure he has a problem with it but just doesn't think he can do anything about it.

So that is the rate per mile. But does a decent driver that isn't running into things making $40-$48k a year? If so, they are WAY ahead of the industry and I give them credit.
