Big Bad Bill if you get the time read post 19 on extorsion alert here on TTR. This is the way the outfit I am leased to is run. This guy is very successful and I like the way he does business. In other words you have to be able to bring something to the table in order to get on with him. This may give you a little insight as you said earlier the guys you bend for and help the most kind of do the least is the way I took it, or they expect more. See what you think.

I'm glad that works for you and the other O/O's. I could never run my business that way. We give the O/O the rate confirmation and treat drivers with respect and expect the same in return. Have some taken advantage? Sure. But far more are good solid people making a good living.
I am sure there is more to what you have there than what is in your post.
But I understand what you are getting at. Plenty of people when you give they just expect more and give nothing in return. But I have a group that is far from takers. We weed those out (getting better at that). -
I like the set-up. That works well for older trucks that you can keep the costs down on. He probably has them paid off. Biggest issue I would have trying to do that at this stage is that the cost to the driver with new trucks. I don't want some driver paying down my equipment that I get to benefit from later on and I can't afford to make the numbers right on the front side.
And I think you mis-understand what I am looking for. Not trying to see how little I can pay someone. I already know what I can afford. I looking to see if that will be enough before I commit to this.
There could be more to the deal but on the surface that would pass the test with the IRS because he has risk. And depending on the state, being small he likely doesn't have to provide workers comp. -
I work for Millis I made $57k last year running I. 35 east in my first year in a truck. The company wanting me to succeed probably had a lot to do with it . Most want their loads hauled and care less about the driver.

What would you be looking at in terms of home time?
-
Hey flyingmusician....I'm about to start my cdl school. I see everything you have wrote to be very true...but I was wondering who do you pull for?
-
2 weeks out 3 days home would be Ideal for me. Staying out longer than 3 weeks I don't care to do to often.
-
That wouldn't be an issue for us. We have some freight out of the area but wouldn't want to take the hit every week. Feel free to email me at bill@farm2fleet.com
