I just began my trucking career, close to 6 months in. I enjoy what i do.. However i have pay concerns. I know there are pay issues, but what is the normal weekly income for a trucker? If you wouldnt mind sharing some info, it would help greatly. Thank you.

There's no real good answer as pay in this biz can vary from $0.00/wk if you piss off dispatch to over $1600/wk at an LTL outfit.
Right out of the gate, you should be grossing no less than $600.00/wk.
Anything else is uncivilized....jakebrake12 Thanks this. -
Hell, $600/wk is uncivilized. Back in the day when I ran for a measly .30/mi. my paychecks bounced between $700 -$950/wk. But I ran my tail off for that kind of money. I'm talking leaving out on Sunday, outta hours by the following Thursday (ooops, gotta go buy me another 70 hours) kinda running. Big factors are
1. Amount per mile. and
2. Number of miles average per week.
Or you could go percentage of the load, and then get as many loads done as you can during the pay period. Since you're still fairly new to the field, concentrate more on how you drive rather than how much you're making. A better driver ends up making better money in the long run.rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
Sad to say, 600 large/week is a king's ransom in this day and age to your average greenhorn with sand still in his boots from the driving range.
What with the Big Blue Screw rolling back pay to .25 cpm and all.
Hell, my uncle made .25 cpm in 1985 pulling for Kimberly Clark.
Ain't that a hoot?
I wonder what wages will be like in another 25 years?
By that time, it'll be .PPM...Pesos Per Mile.brsims, jakebrake12 and walleye Thank this. -
As a company driver I don't think $600 is out of norm at all. Its sucks but its pry not too far off. I probably averaged that or mabe just a little more after the economy got bad and before i got my own truck
GoneButNotForgotten Thanks this. -
500 per week during the 8 week driver training. Then ya get yur truck and it's .31 per mile for 10 months. After the 10 months, or actually your 1st year anniversary, you get a raise to .39 per mile. Pay tops out at .47 per mile.
Sooooo, with a driver who keeps his left door closed and gets to pick ups and deliveries EARLY (when allowed) instead of waiting around to the appointed time every time, thereby getting 2900-3200 miles a week you can do the math.
But wait, as an added bonus I'll do some math, right here, right now!
.31/mile x 2900 miles/wk = $899 per week. Even the lazy ones, sitting at truck stops during the day whining about low pay rather than driving, who might only drive 2300 miles a week, still will bring down $713 per week during thier 3rd thru 12th month with Crete.
STOP! I know miles vary week to week and even the drivers that stay behind the wheel and work may only get 2200 or 2400 miles for the week now and again... Not every week will be a 3000 mile week, but by-in-large those who -regularly- get less than say 2700 miles per week are those who can't keep the left door shut and who will sit for a day waiting for an appointment rather than having dispatch get you in to the shipper or consignee before the "appointed" day/time.
Truth.

I drive 2300 to 2700 miles a week.. average bring home 700 to 900 a week.. bring home.. but we get down time, stop pay, drop hook pay, and thats at 33cpm.. but we also get hub pay...

I think you might be looking for salaries for other drivers in the 6 month to 1 year range? Long established drivers are surely going to make a lot better money, it is that way in about every profession.
Don't know who you work for, but if is for one of the "big boys", like grimesjm1 said, you will be lucky to hit $600.00 a week. A lot of drivers with your experience are somewhere in the $400-600 range. If you are with a big carrier, I realize that you can make every run as fast as humanly possible, but you only have so much control over your loads.
Good luck to you, in maybe a little over 6 months you can hopefully improve your situation. -
Good responses, thank you. Sounds like from what you all are saying puts me in the typical range. I usually leave out on either Sunday/Monday and return Friday/Sunday with hardly any hrs left on my 70 requiring a 34brk. I'm only doing NE regional so most trips are <300miles. I utilize my time to the best of my ability usually only leaving a few minutes on my 14 each day.. And taking only minimum dot brk... I just ran my best week Sun to Sat around 2800 miles. Unfortunately I think that may be at the very high end of mileage, I have been getting around 2000/5days. Hopefully this 2800 mile pay period will be a livable paycheck. Some weeks after seeing my pay I wonder if its all worth my sacrifices, despite enjoying the job...
Thanks again, hopefully it will get better from here. -
Respectfully these numbers seem high?? Can you tell me who you would be driving for to get these numbers?
Thank you
