I know as a new driver one mistake I made was taking all the time they gave me to deliver a load. As soon as I started acting like my pants were on fire, and showing up early for deliveries (many will let you drop even a day early, plus we had empties at many of our customers) it made a huge difference. I was able in some cases to get off another short load a week.......making a big difference in pay, when your in thet $500-$600 range (under .30 a mile). It does another thing, it gets you used to running this way, so when you start getting more per mile........your checks can be $200 more then the average driver.

I've only been out here a little over 3 months but I take home $700-$1000 a week. This past week I grossed a little over $1500.

I'm just a company driver, I drive between 3000 and 4300 miles a week OR if im doing ltl runs between 2000 and 2900 miles a week with $20/stop
Theres plenty of money to be made in the trucking industry, you just have to go out and find it, and when you find it RUN WITH IT!!!!

Trucking pay is one of my favorite topics by far..
This year I'll make $942 a week gross and don't want a penny more. I'm doing an 8 and the gate shift where I'm not even driving anymore - running a yard truck.
When you factor in that I had three pay stubs from last year running line-haul run over into 2011 and will unfortunately end up working a little over-time this year, I'll probably be right around 55K which is 32K less than 2010 even though our mileage and hourly pay were bumped up as of 1/01/2011 and I've never been happier..
There's more to it than that though - considering I work 8 and skate with a set start time, a 10 minute commute each way, and no unpaid time other than a half hour lunch it's probably better than it sounds.
I like to get there about 10 minutes early so even factoring commute and lunch time I'm spending 9 total hours per day M-F away from home for work and I'm done at 2:30 in the afternoon daily.. Gone for the year are the days of grossing $1800 for running 2100 miles and a few hours on the clock nightly but it is what it is..
I have a good amount of time in at a quality LTL company so I can set my own hours, job description, and income every year based off my own priorities that year.. Not too bad of a position to be in.. Not bad at all.. -
good for you, we already know this, you've anounced this before......
American Truckerjakebrake12 Thanks this. -
I won't work for less than $942 per week this year (hopefully I won't make a cent more either) but if I'm behind the wheel nightly $1500 is the bare minimum.. You get where I'm coming from man.. -
I privately do as much as I can possibly do to help younger drivers in their early 20's land the good driving jobs if that's what they really wanna do..
I do see that at the age of 21 you have it all figured out running hard and such so just do what you do man - just don't burn yourself out or get in trouble with those logs man.. Best of luck to you.. -
My mileage has increased weekly ranging from 2500-3000mi. I was happy to see my weekly mileage increase, but i guess i just don't get enough per mile.
I'm having a difficult time with justifying the sacrifices of being a trucker and only getting home 1-2 days a week. I feel like i'm busting my hump daily and despite the mileage increase my paychecks still suck.
Despite experience if your getting the job done and ranging 2500-3000 miles per week i expect to at least make $1000 before taxes. Is this unreasonable?
Does the company i work for underpay that much? Or is this a issue across the board with companies?
