    I did not say all trucking companies. But, for the majority, it is standard hiring procedure.
    If a driver wants to have their lawyer look over the orientation papers, prior to hiring, that is great.

    Plus, it sounds like your lawyer looked at the documentation after the damages were incurred and charged to you? Is that what you meant?

    We are talking about trucking here, boys:), aren't we??? lol

    Every time a driver signs off on a Pre Trip Inspection(PTI) he/she has accepted the responsibility for the equipment entrusted to them. Legally they can be charged for any preventable damage that occurs to the equipment while under their care. Regardless of whether they signed a waiver or not.

    I thought we were talking about;
    I believe sparkyswifes’ real question and concern is, “do they legally have to pay for it.” And, “Is that legal?”
    I could be wrong!

    Yes, TA, I had already answered her question.

    We, as truckers, may not like this waiver. But, it is standard and it is legal.

    it has turned into preventables and PTI's. Just what people who have never been behind the wheel want it to be. Most office people spew those two words more than drivers ever do.

    I agree with you. Companies cant make you finically responsible for future damages.

    Funny that you bring that up. I was just reading an older thread about this same type of topic.
    It is unfortunate that some companies would give bad routes, decrease the available miles/wk, trying to make the driver miserable. Just to deter the driver and make them inevitably want to quit.

    I never saw one of those, and I am sure that I wouldn't work for a company that made you sign one !!!!
